The Position:

The Residential Child and Youth Worker (RCYW) provides care to children and youth with moderate to severe behavioural problems, in a residential program setting, in an accredited agency. As key worker for assigned persons served, the RCYW is responsible for overall development and care of those individuals. In conjunction with the individual’s care team, the RCYW assesses physical, psychological, social and developmental needs, and designs and implements individualized personal service plans and plans of care that address and meet those needs. The RCYW also participates in the operation and maintenance of the program.

 

The Position Scheduling includes:

  • Permanent full-time
  • Permanent part-time
  • Casual / on-call

Each position within the Lower Mainland / Greater Vancouver area, requires union membership with CUPE.

Scheduling includes a variety of shifts such as weekdays, weekends and evening shifts. Shifts can include (but are not limited to) 0700-1500, 0800-1600, 1300-2100 and 1600-2400. Casual / on-call shifts will cover vacation, sick time and extra staffing requirements, as needed.

 

As an ideal candidate you possess:

  • A diploma or degree in one of the humanities, social work or related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two years recent related experience in child and youth care, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Previous experience with operating a licensed home and trauma informed practice
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle that has appropriate insurance

Other Requirements:

  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Physician’s note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Positive behavior supports experience
