About the SUCCESS Multi-Level Care Society


To care for the seniors like our own by providing a continuum of excellent, culturally appropriate services for them. In 1995, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multi-Level Care Society was incorporated with the purpose of establishing linguistically and culturally appropriate care for those seniors in our community. It has now developed into a provider of quality residential care and health services.




This is a permanent full time position, i.e. 37.5 hour per week. Reporting to the Director of Food Services, oversees the operation of the food services department by supervising designated staff and performing related administrative duties. Maintains the kitchen inventory management system and performs a variety of stores duties such as food ordering, shipping and receiving, unpacking, checking, storing and distributing supplies/goods.  Complies with the organization policies, promote and monitor food safe and work safety.



Job duties and responsibilities:


Management Roles

  1. Maximizes the output of the quality and quantity of the work provided by the program by providing consultation and supervision to designated staff, establishing clear definitions of responsibility for each employee, reviewing workload assignments and adjusting schedules according to workload to ensure levels meet operational requirements.
  2. Supervises designated staff by scheduling and coordinating work assignments, evaluating employee performance and determining related training and orientation requirements.
  3. Oversees and updates standards and procedures for kitchen operation.
  4. Provides input to the Director of Food Services regarding the planning and implementation of new kitchen operation and inventory system.
  5. Investigate incidents, unusual occurrences, and accidents and propose recommendations to the Director of Food Services/Management Team.
  6. Recruits staff by interviewing internal and external applicants, making hiring decisions and processing required documentation.
  7. Investigates work and staff issues and where necessary initiates disciplinary action up to and including termination. Participates in the management of grievances and labor relations matters.
  8. Conducts employee performance review and completes appraisals. Participates in the disciplinary and termination process, as guided by the Director of Food Services.
  9. Acts in the capacity of the Director of Food Services in his/her absence.
  10. Promotes resident safety and maintains a safe working environment by ensuring safety practices and procedures are adhered to.
  11. Supervises meal service on each pantry kitchen to ensure proper food portion control, with accurate and smooth meal delivery.


Inventory Management Roles

  1. Plans and coordinates physical inventory checks and cycle counts as required.
  2. Receives, unpacks and checks incoming materials from suppliers, ensures that supplies/goods are delivered as per specifications and completes related paper work such as signing delivery slips.
  3. Rotates stock and checks for expiry date.
  4. Identifies and returns damaged or spoiled goods to suppliers; arranges for delivery and return of loan and return items; completes appropriate documentation.


Administration and Other Roles

  1. Checks invoices against orders and supplies/goods received and resolves discrepancies with suppliers and/or departments.
  2. Maintains records and provides information regarding stores activities; ensures correct coding/labeling on stock items; maintains security measures.
  3. Liaises with Clinical Leader, Nutrition and maintains diet records in kitchen accurate and updated in accordance to diet changes.
  4. Perform regular temperature record audits to ensure requirements are met and corrective actions are taken as needed.
  5. Performs all other related duties as assigned.




Typical Education, training and experience:


  • Possess a diploma from a recognized college as a food service Supervisor
  • Graduation from a recognized program in cooking plus three years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Registered as a member of Canadian Society of Nutrition Management is an asset
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience in a volume food preparation environment. Experience in a long term care residence, the healthcare or hospitality industry is an asset

Typical Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal); Ability to speak and write in Chinese is an asset
  • Excellent team player with effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong in computer skills, such as MS Office Suite
  • Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task;
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to operate related equipment
