JOB SUMMARY

 

Reporting to the Site Coordinator, the Security Attendant is responsible for providing security and basic administrative support functions at Open Door Group facilities. The Security Attendant will patrol and observe the activities of persons in and around Open Door Group facilities. The Security Attendant will assess problem situations and exercise tact and judgment in bringing about their resolution. The Security Attendant will respond to general inquiries and update client files and databases.

 

Duties

 

  • Circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order, observe unusual behavior and protect property.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, clients, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • Observes client behavior, investigates and handles disturbances, deals with client emergencies in accordance with guidelines and reports incidents to appropriate staff or authorities.
  • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.
  • Answer routine inquiries and directs visitors to appropriate areas.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Assists with client intake by performing duties such as obtaining client information and completing documentation required. Schedules and confirms clients for appointments and maintains waiting list.
  • Receives, records, checks and balances transactions such as issuing bus tickets and other client supports.
  • Performs general word processing and data entry functions such as inputting client information into the relevant computer system, typing correspondence, reports and documents.
  • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Education, Training, and Experience

 

  • Successful completion of Basic Standards Training (BST) levels 1 and 2 at the Justice Institute of BC or other recognized institution.
  • Minimum six months experience as a security guard, police officer or military officer, or equivalent occupational experience.
  • Minimum of six months experience providing administrative support.
  • Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, CPR and/or Occupational First Aid is an asset.
  • Must be bondable.

 

Skills and Abilities

 

  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems.
  • Ability to handle complaints, settle disputes, resolve grievances and conflicts, and otherwise negotiate with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to type 50 WPM.
  • Knowledge of Business English

 

Hours of Work:                             36 hours per week
