Small Business BC is a not-for-profit with the mandated to provide entrepreneurs with products and services that will assist their successful entry into small business ventures and to provide small businesses at every stage of development with products, services and support that assist in development and growth.

 

We are seeking an enthusiastic HR professional who is ready to take the next step into an HR Generalist Role. Reporting directly to the VP, Operations, this ‘stand alone’ generalist position is a responsible for all human resources related activities; recruitment, onboarding, talent management, benefits administration, labour & employee relations, compensation, health & safety, payroll administration.

 

JOB SPECIFICS – WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

  • Provides professional expertise on all human resources matters
  • Ensures adherence and interpretation of all relevant legislation, policies and procedures and the collective agreement
  • Assists with collective bargaining
  • Completes and processes documentation throughout the employee lifecycle including new hires, leaves of absences, WCB, benefits sign-up and changes, exits, etc
  • Oversees the full-cycle recruitment process including all onboarding activities
  • Writes, revises and edits company policies and procedures and related documents as needed
  • Maintains the Human Resource Information System
  • Administers health and benefit plans, functioning as the primary liaison with our insurance provider
  • Responsible for the administration of payroll; acts as the liaison between SBBC’s and the outsourced payroll provider
  • Proactively work on a variety of special projects and initiatives to drive people management practices, company culture, and foster 
  • Provides coaching and resources to SBBC staff in areas of staffing initiatives, performance management, employment relations and policy interpretation
  • Performs other job-related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS – WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or the equivalent, and a CPHR designation achieved
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in human resources as a generalist experience or other relevant experience
  • Experience working within a unionized environment, interpreting union contracts, handling grievances and contract negotiations
  • Experience providing front-line HR consultation and providing day to day advice and recommendations on HR related matters
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit environment an asset
  • Payroll knowledge preferred
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and highly confidential human resources issues
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
  • Able to work in team environment and independently
  • Comfortable with public speaking & presentations is an asset
  • General knowledge of a wide variety of business subjects & an entrepreneurial mindset
