Location: Guelph, ON Salary: $17.38 per hour ($31,631.16)

 

The incumbent is responsible for the direct supervision of non-supervisory personnel, i.e. staff, volunteers and students in a range of community-based programs and seasonal staffing requirements within established guidelines.  He/She has input into discipline, hiring or firing decisions within the established guidelines.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Give oversight to day-to-day community ministries programs and seasonal programs, (community garden), ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished

Recruit, screen and select volunteers and students as required. 

Provide training for new staff/volunteers/students.

Research, plan, develop, prepare, deliver and provide leadership to programs, fund raising, and seasonal programs.

Provide regular interaction with clients to keep up-to-date with their individual needs and circumstances, and refer to other agencies and services as required

Assist the Family Services Director with ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming reflects client needs

Document and address client or community complaints as required. 

Assess community needs and review client feedback in order to determine potential alternate programing and develop a strategy for the implementation of such programs

Complete program reports and statistical recording as required in a timely, accurate, and organized manner

Assist in ensuring client and staff safety, and adherence to all health and safety standards

Work with the Family Services Director to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements

Network with Salvation Army program personnel, government and community social service providers and general public to promote and coordinate resources for the benefit of the clients and programs

Prepare, deliver and promote programming throughout the community through program flyers, promotional materials, and community presentations on a regular basis.

Regularly review and update the Family Services Policies and Procedures Manual as required. 

Coordination and input for local Emergency Response Plan, including coordination of team, assistance at local emergencies/community events and assisting with provincial/federal emergencies as required

In partnership with the Family Services Director will assist in the coordination and organization of a range of annual special or seasonal programs (i.e. Christmas Programs, Food Drives, and Summer Camp; Back to School etc.) 

Provide input into the preparation of an operating budget for the community ministries programs and monitors/manages financial performance accordingly

Purchase and order weekly food and office supplies. 

Create and maintain the Community and Family Services social media accounts.

Assist the staff in the course of their duties as required.

Perform other position related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completed Community College, Social Services Worker Diploma or equivalent education

Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including, experience in a variety of social service programs, with supervisory experience, and experience communicating orally and in writing.

Lead by example, demonstrate a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.

Strong oral and written communication skills

Self-motivated and disciplined

Knowledge of community-based resources is an asset.  

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Maturity and ability to exercise good judgment

Ability to develop and maintain a team environment

Good organizational and time management skills

Experience/Working knowledge in word processing; spread sheet use

Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license, own vehicle and current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.

Support for and an understanding to the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

 

This is a permanent fulltime position.  The normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Schedule will vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work will be required.

 

This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods and overtime compensation. Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 35 per week and hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount.
