Position:  Support Coordinator 

Job Purpose

The Support Coordinator provides support and service navigation assistance to children, youth, and adults on the autism spectrum and their families. He/she will also participate in the coordination and delivery of community education sessions as well as consultation to autism service/program professionals.

 

The Support Coordinator supports the training and development of practicum students, volunteers, and any other personnel designated by the Manager of Support Services.  This position is a .75 position.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Development, Coordination, and Delivery of Services

  • Provide timely and diligent personal and/or professional support and service navigation assistance to children, youth, and adults on the autism spectrum and their families.
  • Participate in the development and coordination, enhancement, and evaluations of programs and services within the Support Services portfolio as assigned by the Manager of Support Services.
  • Assist in the coordination or delivery of other programs and services as deemed necessary.

 

Information Management

  • Continually research, identify and disseminate latest information on community/government programs and services, client and community needs, treatments, and relevant legislations.
  • Maintain streamlined processes for client data intake, recording, and reporting.
  • Ensure confidentially of client information at all times.
  • Monitor and report on Support Services activities and outcomes as assigned.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of client intake, referrals, program usage statistics, and data relevant to Autism Edmonton’s Support Services division, in accordance with established standards and guidelines.

 

Outreach and Community Engagement

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with service providers, government entities, academic and research institutions, community groups, and other relevant parties to increase the investigation, development, and access to more Autism related resources, programs, and services.
  • Assist the Manager of Support Services in ensuring the effective coordination and delivery of targeted community engagement activities including related workshops and presentations, professional consultations, community group visits, and other assigned activities.
  • Participate in assigned community liaison meetings and represent Autism Edmonton at advocacy sessions and community events.

 

Supervision

  • Orientate, develop, schedule, and mentor students, volunteers, and designated staff in the Support Services division.

General and Administration

  • Ensure timely submission of all monthly, quarterly and annual program/service reports as assigned by the Manager of Support Services.
  • Attend regular staff meeting to address organizational issues and collaborate on organizational initiatives as a member of the team.
  • Prepare and report on workplan in regularly scheduled supervision meetings with the Manager of Support Services
  • Submit all program and expense reports (with receipts where applicable) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years related experience, including program coordination and delivery, case management as well as employee and volunteer

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • Basic knowledge of Autism and a commitment to deepening that one’s understanding of Autism and the challenges it presents.
  • Keen interest to support a vulnerable population, ability to look outside of the box to develop innovative opportunities for this population.
  • Strong written/verbal communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and mediation skills and comfortable in an advocacy role.
  • Result oriented, and applied time management.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Is a definite team player and has strong supervision and mentorship skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Conditions of Work

  • This position requires some travelling within the city of Edmonton and surrounding areas and occasional travelling to other stakeholder sites in Alberta. A reliable vehicle, current insurance and a valid driver’s licence are requirements of the job.
  • Some early morning, evening and weekend work may be required.
