Position Title: Syrian March Break Camp Worker                     

Start and end dates: March 12th – March 16th 2018

Rate of Pay: $23.24 per hour

Reports To: Program Manager

Hours: (35 hours/week) 1 week contract

Location: Etobicoke area

The Syrian March break camp worker will provide planning and program support at the Syrian March break camp for youth.


Position Summary


Major Duties and Responsibilities:


Planning & Program Delivery

  • Assist in planning and carrying out activities that are culturally sensitive and appropriate for the physical, intellectual, and social development for youth
  • Assist in all program/activity preparations, purchasing of program supplies, set up and clean up
  • Provide support to camp coordinator, other counsellors, and volunteers
  • Understand and adhere to health and safety requirements in setting up activities and camp space
  • Supervise participants at all times and respond to emergency situations quickly and appropriately
  • Attend to the physical and emotional needs of each participant
  • Communicate with parents around program information, and respond to any questions or concerns or refer to Camp Lead when necessary
  • Work with other agency staff and community partners to implement camp activities and events
  • Participate in NYCH trainings and meetings as required
  • Additional support and duties as required


Documentation and reporting   

  • Record and submit program attendance, registration and other reports, as required
  • Submit receipts and other documentation for purchases to camp lead
  • Produce statistical and narrative reports at the end of each session
  • Provide information and feedback from information observations to program staff

Position Requirements:




  • The minimum level of education is a community college diploma in settlement, youth work, social services or related field 

Experience and Skills

  • Previous experience working with youth, particularly in march break camp programs
  • Fluent in Arabic and English
  • Experience supervising volunteers
  • Experience working with newcomer and refugee communities.
  • Highly motivated, positive attitude and ability to work well in a team
  • Responsible, dependable and punctual, with timely communication with staff/supervisor


  • Experience in teaching creative arts and/or sports
  • First aid/CPR training

Other Requirements:


An updated police reference check will be required upon employment

Typically works regular hours from 9:00am to 3:00pm; availability to work evenings if needed.

Some lifting and purchasing of supplies may be required.
