Job Title: Education Program Assistant * 2018 Summer Student Position

Location:  Burnaby BC
Hours:  35/week
Wage: $14.00/hr with 4% Vacation Pay

Applicants must meet the Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be Canadian citizens or permanent residents or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* for the duration of employment (foreign students are not eligible); and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  1. Assist with the Development of Educational Programs and Services
  • Create promotional materials, including flyers
  • Create educational resources using authoring tools such as PowerPoint, and Camtasia; edit audios and videos
  • Ongoing marketing of AFABC’s education services
  • Create and update surveys for course evaluation and feedback; export and code feedback data for evaluation
  1. Administration/General
  • Assist with the preparation, set up and take down of workshops
  • Create and update events in registration database
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date statistics and records
  • Provide program and event reports as required
  • Participate in accreditation activities as required
  • Other duties as required

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to effectively utilize and adapt to new technologies
  • Knowledge of on-line learning strategies and environments
  • Knowledge of promotion and marketing strategies
  • Connection to the Aboriginal community is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of PowerPoint, Microsoft Office and Camtasia is required
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
  • Recognizes the impact of one’s own culture on intercultural interactions and adapt to cultural differences. Has a strong understanding of one’s own culture and perspectives whilst able to accept cultural diversity and the multitude of approaches and range of ideas available. Applies learning in a manner that is respectful of and appropriate for the culture in question.

 

Education/Experience Required:

Student in Education or Business Admin program, minimum 2nd year

  • Maintain confidentiality as per the association’s Code of Conduct
  • Abide by the association’s policy and procedures

 

This position is dependent on Canada Summer Jobs Program funding (may qualify for co-op).
