Applicants must meet the Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements:


  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be Canadian citizens or permanent residents or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* for the duration of the employment (foreign students are not eligible); and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.


The Development Assistant will be responsible for activities associated with fundraising development and events for the Adoptive Families Association of BC.



  • Grant research, research & cultivation of donors and direct mailings, prize acquisition, and events.
  • Liaise with business systems, database support and program resource staff
  • Events support including event planning details, materials, and registration
  • Workshop coordination and registration
  • Assisting with membership and stewardship activities
  • Assist the Development Department with various tasks as needed

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Current student in a Communications, Marketing, Fundraising, or Business Administration program.
  • Experience in the non-profit or child welfare fields and/or knowledge of adoption and child welfare issues
  • Some experience managing fundraising events, campaigns, and activities.
  • Experience in membership-based organizations would be an asset and/or experience working with donors or members
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sensitivity
  • Recognizes the impact of one’s own culture on intercultural interactions and adapt to cultural differences. Has a strong understanding of one’s own culture and perspectives whilst able to accept cultural diversity and the multitude of approaches and range of ideas available. Applies learning in a manner that is respectful of and appropriate for the culture in question.

  • Abide by the association’s policy and procedures



This position is dependent on Canada Summer Jobs Program funding (may qualify for co-op).
