Since 2002, the Zebra Child Protection Centre and our multi-disciplinary team of partners have worked towards the common goals of supporting children, youth and families who have experiences abuse and creating a future where every child is heard. We bring together a community of professionals to provide a continuum of support for children and youth throughout the entire disclosure, investigative, judicial and healing process.


The Zebra Child Protection Centre is looking to hire a full time Volunteer Coordinator to oversee our unique and comprehensive Volunteer Program. The overarching goal of the Volunteer Coordinator is to ensure our organization has enough volunteers to fulfill the need to provide support to our children, youth and families and community events and presentations. To meet that goal, the Volunteer Coordinator must perform a variety of duties involving (but not limited to) recruitment, training and program planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, supervising and growing our established Volunteer Program.  The ability to engage and inspire individuals and form supportive relationships is key to being successful in this role.  The person filling this position must have considerable knowledge of the Centre’s practices and procedures as well as an understanding of our Vision Statement (A community where every child is heard and respected and child abuse is not tolerated. The Zebra Center is recognized as the leader in child advocacy) and our Mission Statement (To provide a collaborative response to child abuse through intervention, advocacy and a continuum of support in a child-friendly environment).



The Volunteer Coordinator will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum two years of relevant experience working with and supervising volunteers/employees (in a non-profit environment is an asset)
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing volunteers to enhance programs and services within a non-profit organization is an asset
  • Self-starter and ability to develop positive and effective relationships with diverse volunteers and members of the community
  • Sound project management, and organizational skills and the ability to develop and implement systems and processes
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism, tact and interpersonal skills to work with stakeholders at all levels
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to change and an ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment and ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive personal information
  • Demonstrate experience with public speaking to varying audiences, sizes and sectors
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written
  • Program development and delivery experience
  • Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Personal volunteer experience is an asset
  • Successfully passing an Edmonton Police Service Enhanced Police Information Check and a Children’s Services Vulnerable Sector Check.


The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:


Program Responsibilities & Duties

  • Promote the Volunteer Program internally and externally to gain partner and community support of the program and the organization.
  • Develop and implement goals, objectives and strategies for the Volunteer Program which reflect the mission of the organization and align to its strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with partners and staff to identify and provide short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities to enrich the overall operations of the Zebra Centre.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered by volunteers and implement improvements as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to volunteer policies and procedures to maintain best practises.
  • Collect data, measure outcomes, and complete evaluation and reporting activities as required.
  • Develop and enhance relationship with agencies that serve minority populations to increase their awareness of the Zebra Centre and recruit new volunteers.

Volunteer Responsibilities & Duties

  • Effectively recruit, engage, orientate, train and steward volunteers.
  • Responsible for the daily ongoing supervision of Zebra Centre volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records.

Other Responsibilities & Duties

  • Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the Zebra Centre.
  • Takes initiative in developing and deepening community relationships, including other CACs.
  • Customized presentations to varied audiences.



This position will be a regularly scheduled shift within the hours of Monday – Thursday 10:00am-6:30pm & Friday 8:00-4:30pm (with some flexibility in schedule required). There is a requirement to participate in on-call Crisis Response program as part of a weekly rotation. Please note we work with accredited facility dogs on-site.
