Regional Educator, Haida Gwaii

Maximum 10 hours per week contract



The British Columbia Schizophrenia Society has a vision where those affected by schizophrenia and psychosis receive excellent treatment and services and are accepted and included in their communities. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those affected by schizophrenia and psychosis through education, support, public policy and research. Founded in 1982, BCSS is a charitable society with a head office in Vancouver, BC.


The Regional educator works within a multi-person team, which includes Bulkley Valley and the North Coast Region and reports to the NW Regional Manager. This position provides information and resources for family members dealing with serious mental illness. In addition to acting as a liaison between families and the mental health system, the Regional Educator organizes workshops and education programs for families and the public, including Aboriginal communities.


  • Post-secondary education in a social services discipline, or degree equivalent;
  • Experience with delivering programs, teaching/facilitating, working with families;
  • Knowledge and experience in writing reports;
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice;
  • Knowledge of BC mental health system, and importance of building positive working relationships within systems;
  • Ability to work within a team and independently;
  • Experience in community/outreach capacity in Haida Gwaii area, including First Nations bands, Metis organizations, and Friendship centers;
  • Demonstration of cultural and spiritual sensitivity;
  • Knowledge of the importance of anti-psychotic medications;
  • Knowledge of the importance of family members being part of the care team.



  • Valid BC Drivers license and reliable vehicle.
  • Current criminal record check.
