Position Title:             Active Play Program Facilitator – Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR)

Status:                         Full Time- 40 hours/week

Placement Date:         July 3 - August 31, 2018

Wage:                          $13.00 per hour


**All applicants must be current and returning post-secondary students, as this position is partly funded through HRSDC Canada Summer Jobs Grants**

Purpose and Objective

Reporting to the Coordinator of Child Care Resource and Referral, this position is responsible for the implementation and delivery of the YMCA & CCRR’s Active Play Program. The successful candidate will work with a small team to develop activities while facilitating and supervising participants at various locations in the Prince George and surrounding area.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement an active play program for children ages 1-9
  • Role model physical literacy skills for children ages 1-9
  • Provide leadership and support in development and delivery of quality programs and quality care to children in a safe environment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of dealing with children and families in all levels of socio-economic status in our community
  • Work in conjunction with other YMCA programs and staff to share resources and ideas.
  • Ensure risk is managed and minimized for programs and services. Playground inspections are completed and documented at every visit, and incident/accident reports are completed and documented
  • To be available and deal with any situation that may arise at any time
  • Network and build relationships with parents, families, children, and community partners
  • Provide leadership and act as a positive role model with children at all times
  • Help promote the program with YMCA staff through all possible marketing methods
  • Adhere to budgetary restrictions ensuring expense expectations are followed
  • Create, lead and facilitate programs, keep activities inclusive, safe, fun, and of high quality
  • Role Model enthusiasm for engaging in active play and physical activity
  • Other duties as assigned from your Coordinator
  • To read, understand and implement all YMCA Policies and Procedures as outlined in the Manual
  • Adherence to the YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures ensuring a safe environment for children, young people/vulnerable adults; identifying children, young people/vulnerable adults who are suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm; and taking appropriate action to see that such children, young people/vulnerable adults are kept safe at the YMCA
  • Adherence to the YMCA Occupational Health & Safety Policy and accountable to work safely at all times, to identify and report hazards, to take whatever measures necessary and reasonable in the circumstances, to protect and promote health and safety

    1. Service Strategy – Ability to identify the needs and wants of members/participants as a priority and respond in an effective and timely manner to enhance every person’s YMCA experience.


    1. Initiative/Enthusiasm/Innovation – Ability to manage and lead in order to achieve and exceed identified goals.


    1. Community Awareness and Understanding – Demonstrates and promotes a personal understanding of and appreciation for the vision, mission and values of the organization.


  • Must be 15 – 30 years of age and must have been a full time student during the previous academic year, intending to return to school full-time for the next academic year.
  • Education in Child Care an asset (Early Childhood Education, Good Beginnings, Responsible Adult or equivalent training)
  • Experience working with children an asset
  • Child and youth focused with commitment to assisting growth and development among children
  • Outgoing with ability to work unsupervised, take initiative, lead groups
  • Proven computer skills and ability to work with Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented, self starter
  • Excellent time management and teamwork abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer service principles and practices
  • Physical ability to complete the tasks
  • Three satisfactory references
  • Child Care First Aid/CPR certificate (or willing to obtain one immediately upon starting)
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a clear driver’s abstract
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search

Working Conditions

  • Majority of day spent physically active outside, in all types of summer weather conditions
  • Flexibility required to meet changing demands
  • Some office work
