The Jean Tweed Centre requires a permanent, Part-Time Counsellor for the Cumberland House residential program to provide support evenings from Thursday – Sunday during the program’s three week cycle.  The residence provides support, programming and accommodation for women from across the province and operates on a 3 week cycle (13 cycles per year).   This position comes with benefits including dental, extended health and long term disability.

 

The individual hired for this position will:

  • Provides continuity of rapport from Thursday to Sunday;
  • The provision of supportive counselling regarding clients’ emerging needs including affect regulation support, conflict mediation, and crisis support;
  • Overseeing the overall safety of clients in the residence;
  • Maintaining all required documentation;
  • Participate in shift changes and team meetings; and
  • Facilitation of groups and community meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Addictions and Mental Health from a recognized community college or equivalent
  • At least two years of experience in the substance use sector
  • A working knowledge of best practices with regard to substance use and women
  • Knowledge and experience working in one or more of the following: problem gambling, mental health concerns, trauma informed practice
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving and crisis management
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Energetic and committed to working as a team player
  • Must be available to work EVENINGS, Thursday to Sunday for Weeks 1 to 3 of the Phase II program
  • First Aid/CPR certification
