Title: Seniors Housing Outreach Worker                     

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, 37.5 hours per week 

Rate of Pay: Hourly range is $20-23/hour. A competitive benefits package is included after probation.

Probationary period: 3 months


Seniors Services Society of BC is a non-profit agency located in New Westminster, B.C. which provides support services for seniors in New Westminster to live independently, as well as outreach services for seniors in housing crisis across Metro Vancouver.    


Within the vision and mission statements of the Society, reporting to the Housing Services Supervisor, the Seniors Housing Outreach Worker will be responsible for maintaining a caseload of homeless and at-risk seniors to attain and/or maintain appropriate housing and services to support their long-term well-being.


  • Provide intensive housing outreach services to a caseload of older adults who are homeless or at risk in Metro Vancouver
  • Assist clients in securing long term affordable and appropriate housing and any necessary supports for independent living
  • Assist homeless clients in accessing emergency shelter and support services.
  • Network with service providers and make referrals for your clients as appropriate including the health authority and mental health
  • Build working relationships with housing providers including BC Housing, subsidized housing providers and private landlords
  • Work with building managers and landlords to prevent evictions of clients
  • Maintain timely, accurate and appropriate records as required and prepare reports as requested
  • Represent the agency in the community when requested
  • Any other duties as required or assigned 


Minimum one year experience working on finding housing for those who are homeless, living with mental illness and/or addiction.

  • Post secondary education in one of the following areas: social work, community social service, mental health, or gerontology. A bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Knowledgeable in community resources for seniors
  • Understanding of systems that can lead to homelessness and/or poverty
  • Must have own vehicle and valid class 5 drivers license
  • Must be comfortable driving around Metro Vancouver to find seniors housing
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificate an asset
  • First Aid certificate an asset
  • Must be willing to provide a criminal record check
  • Ability to balance work/life

Other knowledge, skills, and abilities:

We are seeking a confident, skilled and self-directed, Seniors Housing Outreach Worker who, using their own vehicle, can immediately take on a caseload of homeless and at-risk seniors and find them appropriate housing within Metro Vancouver.

The successful applicant will be a motivated individual who can work under minimum supervision. They must be a team player, able to build positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, clients, housing providers, and community stakeholders. Thorough knowledge of government and community resources and programs for seniors and those defined as, ‘hard to house’ a definite asset. The applicant will be a creative problem solver who can work under stress and remain calm under tight timelines. She or he will be a highly organized individual who is detail oriented.
