Manager, Fund Development                                             Ref# FD-M-FT


The YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking a dynamic individual that will play a key role in securing philanthropic support from individuals, corporations and foundations for the priority programs of the YMCA of Northern Alberta in the Edmonton, Grande Prairie, and Wood Buffalo regions.


The Fund Development Manager is directly accountable to the Vice President, Fund Development. The incumbent will work both independently and with Board Members, other key volunteers and the Senior YMCA leadership team to identify prospects, cultivate relationships by telling the YMCA story, and complete solicitations for gifts ranging from $10,000 - $200,000. In addition, this role will lead major grant and sponsorship activities with individuals, corporations and foundations, working in collaboration with other team members. This position will also be responsible for the reporting, communications, and maintaining long term relationships with donors through best stewardship practices.


The Manager is a member of the Fund Development team, the Senior Leadership Circle, and Association Services team. The Manager will support the growth and development of the overall philanthropic culture within the Association’s staff and volunteers. Particular focus will be on providing philanthropic training, education, information and support to Centre Managers within the associations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages the design, implementation and evaluation of the Strong Kids Program Campaign, focusing on major corporate gifts to support Community Outreach Programs.
  • Manage and support the integrated and donor centered approach to philanthropy by overseeing a portfolio of relationships and by applying excellence in leadership, recruitment, volunteer training and gift solicitation.
  • Manage and develop relationships with staff, volunteers, and prospective major gift donors.
  • Responsible for the development and growth of an existing portfolio of major gift donors and will be responsible to secure new donors.



Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

  • University degree or diploma in fundraising, marketing, public relations or equivalent education, work and/or volunteer experience.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) Designation preferred.


  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fund development capacity.
  • Proof of soliciting and closing solicitations greater than $10,000.    


  • Demonstrate the ability to build trust and gain confidence when developing relationships with prospects, donors, staff and senior level volunteers;
  • Leading or supporting various fund raising events;
  • Possess political and business acumen when dealing with senior staff and corporate executives;
  • Ability to develop, mentor and direct performance of self and others to achieve results;
  • Goal oriented, motivated by creating and achieving targets;
  • Exceptional proposal writing skills and strong verbal presentation skills;
  • Organizational and analytical ability;
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office;

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or SAGE donor management software an asset.
