HR Tech Group is a non-profit association of HR professionals who work for the largest tech companies in BC; our members come from all 5 tech sub-sectors.  HR Tech Group represents over 150 member companies, and approximately 600 individual HR practitioners.  For more than 25 years, HR Tech Group has produced the leading BC Tech Salary Survey, provided mentorship, learning opportunities, and data to assist HR practitioners implement best people practices.  Our mandate is to drive and deliver HR value both tactically for members, and strategically for the BC tech sector. 


This sector employs an estimated 100,000 employees in BC, and is uniquely positioned in the province as one of the most influential industries, as supported by the recent appointment of a new Innovation Chair to advise the government on changes and challenges within the industry.  The greatest enabler of a tech company’s success is people, and HR Tech Group is uniquely positioned in the province to support tech talent.


We currently have an opening for the position of:






The Executive Director, reporting to the Board Chair and working with the Board of Directors, is responsible for establishing and executing the Mission and Objectives of HR Tech Group. The Executive Director provides leadership, direction, and guidance to the association. This individual is the senior representative of the association for members, key stakeholders, government relations, educational organizations, sponsors, industry providers, and the general public.



Duties and responsibilities

Revenue Management and Generation

  • Work with the Board to prepare and manage annual budget.
  • Manage the finances of the association to ensure that HR Tech Group can fulfill its obligations.
  • Manage the delivery, marketing, and sales of the Annual Salary Survey.
  • Administer the Benefit Program with Morneau Shepell.
  • Ensure the Sponsorship program is meeting revenue targets and that Sponsor’s ROI is maintained.
  • Ensure the bi-annual Talent Conference meets or exceeds member’s expectations and revenue targets.


Member Services

  • Ensure members in all technology sectors are represented by the association.
  • Maintain high levels of member satisfaction and value.
  • Ensure that member events represent thought leadership and address members’ needs.
  • Support association programs such as special interest groups, the mentorship program and others.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Steering Committee.
  • Ensure that volunteers are recognized for their contributions to HR Tech Group.

Operational Management

  • Chair the Steering Committee
  • Provide leadership and direction to association staff and consultants.
  • Oversee HR Tech Group’s brand and media presence.
  • Ensure HR Tech Group is compliant with the “Societies Act” at all times.
  • Ensure all necessary regulatory filling are submitted accurately and in a timely fashion.

Industry and Government Relations

  • Maintain strong working relationships with local and regional industry association representatives.
  • Foster opportunities to represent the tech industry to all levels of government. Specifically in the areas that affect tech employers in BC.
  • Maintain excellent relations with partner associations.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Progressive management experience in HR or a voluntary sector association.
  • A passion for HR and the tech industry.
  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/ voluntary associations.
  • Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the association.
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively 1 on 1 and to a larger audience.
  • Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the association.
  • Experienced in leading projects from both an activity and financial aspect.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a strategic approach to association growth and objective setting.
