Hours:                   40 Hours Weekly, Full-time Summer Student Position

Wage:                   $ 12.00/hr

This position will be responsible for providing professional support to the Squamish Arts Council and its team by overseeing, developing, and coordinating community art exhibitions; providing administrative support to the programs, operations, and events team; and be responsible for increasing community connections to arts and culture through outreach. The Arts Administrator will represent the Squamish Arts Council as an arts information resource for Squamish by participating in the development of arts programs and services amongst diverse interest groups.

Core projects of the Arts Administrator will be:

  • Content creation and copy for Squamish Arts Council website project.
  • Supporting youth programs as a camp counselor when youth programs are running.
  • Developing summer newsletters in Mailchimp to membership and email lists of the Squamish Arts Council.
  • Supporting arts exhibition turn overs with the VISUALS committee.
  • Providing administrative support to the board and staff when and where required.
  • Development and presentation of one mentorship project that fits within the Arts Council’s mandate.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities


  • Provide organizational, administrative and program planning assistance to Board Chair and staff when required.
  • Develop content that will be published on a new Squamish Arts Council website and assist with developing a website navigation tree.


  • Assist with the development and production of visual art exhibitions as required and directed by the VISUALS Committee.
  • Provide support to the youth programs as a camp counselor when programs are running. This will include providing on-site support to artist facilitator, working with artists and program coordinator to develop a daily schedule, supervising students during lunch, running games and activities that are engaging for youth participants.
  • Assist with the Squamish Wind Festival where required by the Festival Director and Events Coordinator.

Marketing / Outreach

  • Develop monthly newsletters for the Squamish Arts Council through Mailchimp.
  • Post interesting and engaging organic content on social media while adhering to Squamish Arts Council social media policies.
  • Create social media graphics, posters, flyers and other marketing materials as required.


  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Worked previously with youth in a camp or workshop setting and has experience engaging with youth of various ages including running games, communication, and activities.
  • Ability to problem solve effectively with multiple stakeholders including children, youth, and parents.
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment, initiative, tact, and diplomacy;
  • Excellent research and writing skills with ability to tackle complex ideas;
  • Excellent editing skills with the ability to create texts for multiple purposes and diverse audiences;
  • Create a result-oriented work environment that promotes collaboration, and builds relationships with donors, members, artists and supporters that inspires;
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail; 
  • High degree of computer proficiency and accuracy; 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several projects simultaneously.


  • Be a dynamic and accomplished individual with leadership experience;
  • Working knowledge of Wordpress and HTML and Squarespace.
  • Experience in graphic design.
  • Valid drivers license with reliable vehicle.

Requirements to apply

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • HHave been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Must have current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must have a criminal record and vulnerable sector check completed upon hiring. 
  • Must live in Squamish or be able to commute to work in timely fashion.
  • Ability to work on weekends, holidays or evenings for events.
