Hours:                   30 Hours Weekly, Full-time Summer Student Position

Wage:                   $ 16/hr

Must be flexible and willing to work some nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position will be responsible for managing and coordinating the Squamish Arts Council's summer events and festivals including its flagship festival the Squamish Wind Festival for the Arts. The Squamish Wind Festival is an important community event and is currently the only dedicated arts and culture festival for Squamish. The event sees 3000 attendees each year and is growing. This position will be integral to the success and advancement of the 2018 festival and provide an incredible learning opportunity for the student to work with industry professionals and pull off a community-wide event that reaches all populations, and promotes tourism within the Squamish arts sector.

This position will work closely with the Festival Director and will be supervised by both the Festival Director and Board Chair.

Core projects of the Festival & Events Coordinator will be:

  • The coordination, planning, and successful execution of the Squamish Wind Festival for the Arts;
  • Developing additional summer events that advance the mandate of the Squamish Arts Council;
  • Assisting with planning and support for the Squamish Artwalk;
  • Development and presentation of one mentorship project that fits within the Arts Council’s mandate.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

Communication & Marketing

  • Develop and maintain the Squamish Wind Festival website, its social media handles and content.
  • Grow online audience, user engagement and loyalty on all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube and more).
  • Stay up to date on emerging social technologies and features, and use them to engage and grow our audience (Facebook Live, Facebook 360, Snapchat and Instagram stories).
  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages on all our channels.
  • Create marketing materials, social media graphics, organic and original social media content.
  • Implement and design creative content for audience engagement.
  • Ensure that all grant guidelines and branding requirements for festivals are adhered to.
  • Follow and enforce all policy in regards to copyright of images, artists rights and information sharing and ensure that appropriate credits are given and permissions are received.
  • Act as a representative of the Squamish Arts Council during all festival and events to further the brand and identity of the Squamish Arts Council.
  • Liaise with secured sponsors and partners and identify new potential sponsors and partnerships.
  • Manage and send email marketing campaigns about festivals and events through the Squamish Arts Council.

 

Event Coordination

  • Recruit, train, manage, and supervise volunteers for the Squamish Wind Festival.
  • Provide support to the Festival Director for all planning activities.
  • Coordinate, under the direction of the Festival Director, Squamish Wind Festival programs and events like the Artisan Market, the Film night, artist demonstrations, and live music.
  • Secure required materials, supplies, and resources within budget and work with community partners.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills as a writer and marketer, coupled with public speaking abilities; 
  • Strong knowledge of all social media platforms and strategy such as using Facebook Ads, Google Adwords, Mailchimp, and Squarespace;
  • Must have working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Mailchimp, Dropbox, Google, and Squarespace.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office;
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative programs;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with some advertising or media experience and an appreciation for the Arts;
  • A record of successful experience working through virtual networks including developing engaging content on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn;
  • Ability to develop work plans, establish priorities, solve problems, and work within deadlines;
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities;
  • Excellent project management skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated eye for aesthetics in design;
  • Experienced in Graphic Design.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting;
  • Ability to complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.

Assets

  • Skills in digital media arts (video editing or creation, podcasting etc.) an asset CMS and HTML coding an asset;
  • Proven ability to develop a large online following and set trending content an asset;
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, Lightroom or other editing or post production software;
  • Experience writing press releases an asset;
  • Knowledge of print production process and experience in dealing with marketing communications suppliers an asset;
  • Specific knowledge of Squamish community, history, and demographics, and the Squamish Arst Council an asset.
  • Valid Drivers License and reliable vehicle.
  • CPR/First Aid Training and certification that is current.

 

 

 

Requirements to apply

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • HHave been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Is an undergraduate, masters or PhD student communications, marketing, public relations, events or related field;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations;
  • Must live in Squamish or be able to commute to work in timely fashion;
  • Ability to work on weekends, holidays, or evenings for events;
