Full-Time Program Instructor


The YMCA Welcome Village was built in central Edmonton to address the increasing need for affordable housing, childcare and easily accessible family supports. The YMCA Welcome Village provides affordable housing at the Melcor YMCA Village, Child Care at the Shirley Stollery YMCA, family and children’s programs and resources at the YMCA Family Resource Centre. 


Position Summary:  The YMCA Family Resource Centre currently offers some parenting programs, collective kitchens and early intervention family supports.   The Program Instructor delivers collective kitchens, speciality kitchens and children’s programs. 


Wage: salary will commensurate with experience and education. Working a 37.5 hour work week including evenings and some weekends with a comprehensive benefit package that includes: medical benefits that include health and dental, pension plan with matching employer contribution, and more… 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, promote, implement and facilitate approved programs including kitchens and children programs.
  • Maintain and role model respect amongst the program participants and volunteers.
  • Work with child, youth and adult participants
  • Active supervision and support of program participants and volunteers during programming.
  • Program administration duties; document and maintain statistical information.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment for all participants, volunteers and staff.
  • Work with supervisor to complete budgeting and forecasting for applicable programs.
  • Contribute as a member of the staff team in the operation of the centre, and complete other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate and promote a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision, and values and the YMCA programs and services and role model a personal commitment to a healthy lifestyle.


Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

  • University Degree or Diploma in a related field
  • Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Current Police Security Clearance with vulnerable sector check
  • Annual registration in a professional organization as required by law if applicable.
  • Non Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification preferred.


  • Experience and knowledge of cultural groups, high needs, and marginalized populations.
  • Experience facilitating groups


  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Foundational counselling skills
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition, collective kitchens
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
