Fraserside Community Services Society invites applications for the following position:


Job Title:               COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER               


Classification:      Standard Grid Level 10 – Community Support Worker

Rate of Pay:          $19.58 per hour and increments in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement



The Community Support Worker supports clients with developmental disabilities in community based activities; works with all clients and the team and implement individual and group planning, training and support; develops program and community activities based on individual's choices, interests and abilities; provides client supervision and support, and daily living, social, life and work skills training to promote skill development, community participation and integration;; carries out assignments with client(s) following set protocols and programs. This is a regular position covering backfill for Community Inclusion and Community Living Residential Programs as needed while maintaining same weekly hours.



  • Minimum Diploma in the human services field and at least one year recent experience working with people who have developmental disabilities, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Responsiveness and sensitivity to the needs of persons with disabilities (in a group or 1:1 setting); strong community living values and good organizational skills are a must
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge/training in behaviour approach and experience working with individuals with challenging behaviours, mobility impairments and alternate communication systems
  • Previous experience in the role of Key Worker in a residential setting
  • Experience in day services, developing integrated community opportunities and supporting employment options for people with developmental disabilities
  • Good interpersonal skills to work with a wide range of clients and teams including conflict management and resolution skills
  • Prior knowledge and training in use of mechanical lifts and ability to perform lifts and transfers up to 40lbs.
  • Willingness and interest in participating and supporting residents in home and community activities based on individual's interests and needs
  • Responsiveness and sensitivity to the needs of persons with disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to working effectively with diverse populations
  • Ability to work in cooperation with families and external support services
  • Knowledge and experience in providing residents with nutritional assistance
  • Skill in developing, implementing, monitoring and documenting individual service plans and training plans
  • Class 4 Restricted BC Driver’s License; Reliable personal vehicle with business insurance and $3,000,000 third-party legal liability insurance required
  • Valid First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and FOODSAFE certification; Mandt System Training an asset
  • Appropriate role modelling and willingness to participate in diverse daily activities (community, recreational, vocational, employment, daily living, one-to-one, etc.) and work with a broad range of individuals
  • Medical certificate of health and immunization record
  • Successful Criminal Record Check
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating system and MS Word; familiarity with an electronic case management system is preferred


HOURS OF WORK: 30 hrs/week; start and finish times may be adjusted and flexibility with hours of work is required to meet client and program needs as determined by Programs’ Coordinators.
