POSITION: EMPLOYMENT FACILITATOR, Phoenix Learning & Employment Centre (PLEC)

TERM- April 1, 2018- March 31, 2019

Job Summary: As a member of the Phoenix Learning and Employment Centre (PLEC) team, the Employment Facilitator works to support youth in their education, employment and personal development goals. The Employment Facilitator supports youth through the coordination and facilitation of group programming, paid work placements, outreach activities and advocacy. Helping youth develop skills and confidence is a major component of this position by coordinating programs including an eight-week summer program.  The Employment Facilitator will work with employers and youth to set up and support work placements by providing employer engagement activities, job coaching and ongoing support.

Hours of Work:  Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm with some flexibility and occasional evening work.

Reports to: Coordinator, Phoenix Learning and Employment Centre


Screening Requirements: This position is subject to a satisfactory criminal record check including a vulnerable sector search, a child abuse register check and proof of education.




  • Develop, design and facilitate employability programs for youth who have a variety of learning needs including an 8-week summer program.
  • Support youth participants through volunteer and/or work placements by providing supportive counselling, job coaching and employer engagement activities.
  • Monitor the progress of participant’s work and volunteer placements through weekly check-ins with youth and employers.
  • Provide outreach support through tours, community activities and advocacy.
  • Work collaboratively with other Phoenix programs to offer effective youth-centered life skill and employability programming.



  • Bachelor of Education or Social Work or equivalent, with a minimum of one year of direct service delivery experience with youth/young adults.
  • Solid understanding of youth development and youth employment needs.
  • Experience supporting young people to make positive transitions into the workforce.
  • Experience developing and facilitating employment programs/workshops using an adult education model and experiential learning.
  • Registration or candidacy for registration, certification or membership of a related professional body (if applicable).
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training (CPI), suicide intervention training (ASIST) and standard first aid training or a commitment to secure those requirements within six months of being hired.
  • Demonstrated skill using anti-oppressive practice (harm reduction, narrative practice, a social justice perspective) is an asset.
  • Experience working for a non-profit organization is an asset.
