Direct Care Worker

 

We are looking for a part time independent contractor who is creative, bright and experienced Direct Care Worker for people who face the challenges of autism and who may have developmental and/or other complex disabilities. We are a charitable non-profit organization that has a record of pioneering in successfully working with this population.

Responsibilities:

  • Working alongside team members that provide the people-we-serve various therapeutic interventions. These modalities include, but are not limited to expressive arts, music, drama, occupational therapies, yoga, dance and recreational physical therapies. We are looking for a person that, among other skills is motivated to learn and develop in his/her profession through developing and implementing therapeutic and educational programming
  • As a part of your role you will also be involved in providing emotional and physical support to those who may require assistance with personal care, life skills, and other daily activities.
  • Adhering to Person Centred approach is central to our philosophy
  • Daily writing of reports, and participating in all organized activities including recreation, outdoor education and community outreach are important parts of your job

 

Qualifications:

  • You must be capable of providing humanistic, Person-Centered Multi-Focal Approach support to individuals with autism, developmental, and/or other complex needs. You should be personable and caring and genuinely interested to work with children and/or adults in a day program setting.
  • You must have a university B.A degree, or a 2/3 years college degree/diploma in social/developmental services or equivalent
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
  • Required Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Person Sector Screening.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in working directly with individuals with challenging developmental complex disabilities
