Hours of Work:                40 hours/week – 1-year contract

Reporting:                        Reports to the WESP Project Manager


Pay Level:                        Hiring range: $43,000 - $47,000  

                                            Current CCRW staff will be considered on a priority basis



Scope and Purpose:


CCRW is paving the way to a fully inclusive nation, because we believe that disability should never stand in the way of ambition. WESP, a Toronto-based program of CCRW, is a client-centred dynamic employment program designed to specifically provide college and university-educated job seekers with disabilities a professional insight into the world of work.




The WESP Employment Counsellor will be dually responsible for facilitating group-based pre-employment workshops and providing post-workshop individual employment counselling support (including career testing) to jobseekers with disabilities. This role also involves promoting the WESP program via social media and community outreach presentations.


General Duties:


The incumbent will:


  • Develop, revise, and facilitate pre-employment workshops addressing topics related to job searching (resume writing, cover letter writing, interview preparation) and disability (disclosure, accommodation, your legal rights in the workplace).


  • Provide individual job coaching and employment counselling support.


  • Administer individual and group-based career testing (MBTI and Self-Directed Search).


  • Promote WESP’s pre-employment workshops among community partners through events and online (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram).


  • Utilize a community development approach in recruiting prospective WESP participants to the program.


  • Complete administrative tasks related to monthly and quarterly reports.




  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in employment counselling, career counselling, or career advising (university degree preferred)


  • Qualified to administer and interpret level B psychometric tests (i.e. MBTI, Self-Directed Search)


  • 2-3 years’ experience in employment/career counselling including case management and workshop facilitation


  • Familiarity with and understanding of the barriers experienced by job seekers with disabilities as well as an awareness of cross-cultural sensitivities and issues


  • Demonstrated knowledge of community-based programs and services for jobseekers with disabilities; familiarity with Employment Ontario OEAS funding model preferred


  • Other languages (ASL) are an asset


  • Excellent organizational, presentation, and workshop facilitation skills


  • Capable of being self-directed and showing initiative


  • Highly skilled in using MS Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Publisher); experience with the following programs preferred: Office 365 (SharePoint), Prezi, Piktochart, Adobe Pro, WordPress


  • Highly proficient using social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram)


  • Ability to work variable hours (to attend evening networking and outreach events) is occasionally required
