Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) is an award-winning, accredited not-for-profit that has served the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley for over 30 years. Our participants are often vulnerable or marginalized from society. PCRS is committed to integrated service delivery that is people-centred, inclusive, collaborative, and evidence-based. PCRS has an annual operating budget of approximately 24 million, employs nearly 350 staff, and engages over 200 volunteers.

PCRS requires a regular, full-time experienced clinical counsellor to provide expertise in a remote youth and young adult addictions treatment centre in Keremeos. This position requires a sound understanding of addictions, mental health, and trauma-informed practices. Additionally, the successful candidate will show expertise in attachment theory, child and adolescent growth and development, and counselling theories such as CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, solution-focused counselling, and existential and experiential therapies.

The successful applicant will have strong knowledge base of successful treatment practices for youth and young adults and the ability to balance clinical methodologies with recreational and relationship-based practices.


Primary Duties:


1)Provision of clinical services:

  • Provides one-on-one ongoing clinical counselling with participants using evidenced-based interventions in coordination with participant goals as well as ongoing communication with the clinical manager and relevant support networks
  • Understands the importance of working with other professionals to provide services that are relevant to local need
  • Provides insight and practically focused counselling while maintaining a safe environment
  • Plans and implements relevant group programming
  • Act as a positive role model for youth, young adults, and families.
  • Assist the youth in developing values of honesty, self-assertiveness, respect for others, and a lack of dependency on substances, self-abusive and / or destructive behaviour.
  • Ability to add to and implement a trauma-informed environment.

2) Maintains administrative policies:

  • Participates in the work of PCRS’s committee system.
  • Implement agency’s policy.
  • Attend and participate in all supervisory and staff meetings, training sessions, committee meetings, and agency all-staff meetings.
  • Give and receive constructive criticism.
  • Communicate effectively with both co-workers and supervisors.
  • Maintain appropriate group and case files and documentation.
  • Maintain petty cash records according to the financial policies of the agency.
  • Carry out administration tasks as assigned.

3) To work as a member of a treatment team:

  • Develop and implement written service plans in concert with the clinical manager, home support team and youth or young adult.
  • Formalize in writing specific service goals arising out of the service plan.
  • Explain the program’s expectations and confidentiality policy to the youth and obtains a written or verbal consent to treatment.
  • Maintain records and case notes describing significant treatment related information.
  • Engage in periodic evaluation and review of treatment goals and renegotiates goals as appropriate.
  • Produce detailed written assessments and discharge reports as required by agency policy.

4) To maintain health and safety:

  • Manages acting out behaviour by applying methods of logical consequence in accordance. with agency policy. Intervene effectively to prevent or diffuse violence.
  • Handle emergency situations safely and in accordance with agency policy.
  • Maintain good safety practices and a preventative approach.
  • Take responsibility for monitoring the youth’s health and make appointments with relevant professionals when necessary
  • Understand the stresses of the job and takes steps to prevent personal burnout.

Academic and Job Experience Required:


MA or BA in a related field. Registration with a counselling body such as the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors or Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Three years’ experience as a clinical counsellor.

**Applicants with experience in supporting youth through addiction treatment will be given preference** 


Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector
  • Current standard First Aid Certificate is required for all positions
  • Class 5 driver’s license preferred with business use insurance
  • Use of own vehicle is required with paid mileage
  • Driver’s abstract

  • Ability to respond to crisis scenarios using agency protocols and ethics
  • Effective team collaboration skills
