Supervises: Accounting and Administration team

Employee status: Full time, permanent


Position Purpose:

Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Supervisor will be responsible for the day to day management of the accounting and administration team. The ideal candidate will possess strong management, communication, and problem solving skills. This is a supervisory position and the majority of daily tasks will focus on team management, while assisting the team with general accounting duties. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the team through proper administration, scheduling, and execution of tasks
  • Update timesheets and approve staff time off requests in EZ Labour
  • Actively managing human resources responsibilities including, but not limited to hiring, scheduling, training, briefing, mentoring, developing, and evaluating employees (including coaching, discipline, and termination)
  • Leading the team to ensure team members are meeting timelines, performance expectations, and goals
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for standardization and automation of processes in an effort to improve efficiency.  Update procedural documentation as required
  • Coordinate month end entries from all areas including payroll and inventory accruals and adjustments
  • Perform monthly reconciliations: 3 large bank accounts and various GL accounts
  • Prepare and maintain fixed asset and amortization schedule
  • Assist in coordination of month end journal entries and year end closes
  • Coordinate support for software upgrades, testing and training
  • Assisting in various ad hoc duties as assigned


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience required
  • Management experience in a unionized environment considered an asset
  • Working experience in Finance and Accounting considered an asset
  • Experience with MS Dynamics considered an asset
  • Post-secondary education in finance and accounting or equivalent
  • Excellent organizational skills, with strong attention to details and accuracy
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while meeting strict deadlines
  • Flexible and adaptable with the proven ability to learn new applications and processes quickly, identify process improvements and work on projects: think “outside the box”.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage change in an operation setting
  • Advanced Excel skills in spreadsheet engineering and proficient with MS Word and Outlook
