The Youth Job Connection (YJC) program is designed to help young people between the ages of 15 and 29 who face multiple barriers to employment.  It provides access to employment skills development, along with education/training and work experience.  The Job Developer/Program Assistant will work closely with the Program Coordinator to ensure that this program meets and exceeds all project goals and objectives.

Start Date: Immediately – March 31, 2019 (with good possibility of renewal)



Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):


Employer Engagement and Relationship Maintenance

  • Visits employers to initiate and maintain strong professional relationships
  • Develops multiple job opportunities for youth from various employers
  • Arranges sufficient, appropriate and results-focused hiring fairs, job interviews, employer meetings and job search outings
  • Ensures diverse employment opportunities are available so that youth will be employed in realistic employment of their choosing 
  • Collects and maintains accurate documentation of contacted employers, job leads and all other job development activity for information retrieval
  • Populates an Employer Database with notes regarding job development activities
  • Regularly participates in community and business networking events, meetings, job fairs and other activities to inform the community, employers and job seekers about The Career Foundation and Youth Job Connection; participates in networking events on a monthly basis


Job Placement and Mentorship

  • Places a minimum of 50 youth into full time employment throughout the contract period according to the funder's requirements; on average 5-7 participants per week
  • Ensures the quality of placements by appropriately matching the participants’ skills with the job requirements and meeting the funder’s criteria
  • Completes all necessary placement paperwork, including supporting employers in submitting invoices for timely reimbursement
  • Maintains ongoing communication with employers and continuously visits employers to initiate and maintain strong relationships in support of employment retention and future placement opportunities
  • Collects employer/participant attestations and ensures that all necessary paperwork is filed appropriately
  • Develops a resource pool of mentors; links participants with appropriate mentors/ coaches to provide support during and after job placement


Recruitment & Selection

  • Works with team to recruit 25 – 30 clients per group and to ensure that the required number of participants start the program in each session
  • Develops and maintains a positive relationship with community partners and fosters strong referral relationships
  • Forwards documentation of contacted community organizations for Job Developer/Outreach Worker reporting requirements
  • Conducts accurate and thorough assessments of youth based on the program eligibility requirements and ensures all mandatory forms are completed
  • Works with participants to modify and build their master skills sheet and to develop their resumes for the positions to which they are applying
  • Demonstrates a understanding of the positions that youth are applying for; a strong ability to source information in order to clarify questions youth may have and/or anticipate information they will need to successfully start employment


Facilitation/Job Coaching

  • Conducts student job readiness group workshops onsite or at various schools and community centers
  • Provides job coaching to participants on appropriate work habits, behaviours and attitudes during their participation in the YJC program and in the workplace
  • Coaches and motivates participants during job search and after placement to ensure job retention
  • Maintains regular and consistent follow up with participants during both the workshop and retention phases of the intervention to ensure positive outcomes
  • Conducts regular monitoring visits and calls with youth
  • Provides one-to-one or group sessions on job maintenance skills to ensure that participants are able to handle challenges on the job with professionalism and maturity
  • Prepares participants for position-specific interviews through activities such as mock interviews


Documentation, Follow up and Reporting

  • Enters participant and employer information into CaMS and internal database on a weekly basis
  • Ensures client files, trackers and reporting systems are maintained and updated in compliance with the Employment Ontario model requirements
  • Prepares a summary report on the status of Subsidy and Training Incentives on a monthly basis
  • Documents client activities in the program, supports received and program outcomes 
  • Conducts consistent follow-up with clients in the program, during placement and at 3, 6 and 12 months to provide ongoing support and services   



Qualifications/ Skills Required:

  • College Diploma or University Degree required
  • Experience in recruitment, job development and/or social services related fields serving multi-barriered youth
  • Ability to effectively apply the principles of the sales process to generate job leads and secure positions for clients
  • Vocational counselling/ placement experience with multi-barriered individuals considered a strong asset
  • Knowledge of local labour market, job search strategies and techniques
  • Employs flexible and creative approach to work to ensure that all requirements of the program are met
  • Working effectively as part of a team, this includes demonstrating a willingness to be cross trained
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English (proficiency in a second language  would be an asset) with strong presentation and resume writing ability
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for local travel
