Position: Links Family Therapist

                                                     35 hours a week



The Links Family Therapist provides assessment, treatment planning and intervention for children and their families. Service is provided through a multidisciplinary team including the therapist, family and the mental health clinician. The program works to improve children’s social, emotional and behavioural functioning at school, at home, and in the community and decrease the occurrence of preventable mental health issues in adolescence.


  • Provide behaviour management and counselling to children 5-12 years of age and their families to address problem behaviours in home and community settings
  • Assist parents and caregivers to acquire and develop the skills necessary to facilitate their child’s success at home, school and in the community
  • Teach problem solving and positive parenting skills
  • Teach adaptive skills to improve coping, self-regulation, manage anxiety and depression
  • Provide interventions based on best practices in behaviour management and family counselling
  • Work closely with community professionals to provide effective collaboration and case management through a multidisciplinary team
  • Assess the strengths and needs of children and their families in order to develop goals and a plan for intervention
  • Assist families with advocacy and finding community resources to meet their needs
  • Provide written assessments and reports
  • Maintain files in accordance with accreditation standards


  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling Psychology
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience providing family therapy to high-risk children and families
  • Experience working with children in home, school and community settings
  • Excellent knowledge of behaviour intervention strategies
  • Excellent knowledge of family counselling techniques
  • Experience working with at-risk children and families with complex problems
  • Excellent case management and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent knowledge of child development



  • Good understanding of the effects of trauma, depression and anxiety on individual and family functioning
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Familiarity with and adherence to the BC Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics as well as other relevant legislation
  • Flexible hours of work required, including evenings
  • Vehicle required
  • Valid first aid certificate required
  • Clear Criminal Record check required
