The Career Focus program helps post-secondary educated youth gain career-related work experience through work placements in high-demand fields. With support from Employment Ontario hubs, the Career Focus team assists clients to fine tune resumes, cover letters and interview skills. They also provide half-day job retention/employer expectations workshops.


Position Type: Full-time contract (until April 2019, with very good possibility of extension)

Reporting to: Project Coordinator

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Coordinating and conducting marketing and outreach activities to employers, associations, sectors and community partners
  • Liaising with community partners regarding client referrals and client progress
  • Conducting intake sessions with potential candidates for the program
  • Managing individual and team administrative duties: scheduling appointments for candidates, completing necessary paperwork, maintaining client and employer files and filing system
  • Delivering job retention / employer expectations workshops and information sessions, and other workshops, as needed, at all locations
  • Assisting clients to develop resumes, cover letters and interview skills
  • Coaching and motivating clients during job searching and work placements
  • Ensuring successful job development for clients in their areas of choice by developing and maintaining relationships with employers in high-demand fields
  • Ensuring quality of placements by matching candidates’ skills with job requirements
  • Developing and maintaining accurate placement documentation
  • Administering placement agreements with wage subsidies; monitoring wage subsidies throughout client placements
  • Ensuring individual placement targets are met
  • Extensive travel on a regular basis to visit employers and to work from various office locations

Qualifications / Skills Required

  • University degree
  • Minimum of 2 years’ direct service experience in recruitment, job development and / or job coaching
  • Superior written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Workshop facilitation skills
  • 2 years of work experience in social, health or related fields
  • Understanding of and ability to effectively apply the principles of the sales process to generate job leads and secure positions for clients
  • Vocational counselling / placement experience with youth considered a strong asset
  • Knowledge of local labour market and job search strategies and techniques
  • Strong resume and cover letter writing skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Willing to travel daily within the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area (and beyond)
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle is essential
  • Flexible approach to work to ensure that all requirements of the program are met
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages is an asset
