Getting Ready for Inclusion Today (GRIT, Edmonton), is a dynamic program, whose mission is to enhance the meaningful inclusion and participation of all children in the everyday activities at home, community programs (child care, preschool etc.) and kindergarten.   GRIT is also committed to support the skills and knowledge of early childhood educators to provide high quality learning environments for all children. 


The ASaP Continuum Project (Access, Supports and Participation) builds upon the skills, knowledge and confidence of early childhood educators in childcare centers in Alberta. Utilizing the evidence-based Teaching Pyramid Model, the project provides professional development and ongoing coaching to participating centres.


Currently, the ASaP project is in a rapid period of growth and will be supporting approximately 150 child care centres across the province, including Alberta’s $25.00/day early learning and child care centres.


About the Position:  The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership ability and experience in the early years supporting young children and families. As an ASaP Coach, you will guide the implementation of professional practices to support children’s social and emotional development and educator’s responsiveness to challenging behavior.  Your strong interpersonal skills will be used to strengthen your coaching practices, to support the leadership team as they engage families, to uphold inclusive practices, and to participate in research to monitor program outcomes.  


All successful candidates will receive training on the Teaching Pyramid Model and Practice-Based Coaching upon hire.  Training will be in Edmonton.  This position will require regular travel within the region in which you are hired and occasional trips to Edmonton.



  • Degree in a related field (e.g.: Early Childhood Development, Disability Studies, or equivalent) with minimum 5 years’ experience working with young children and their families.  Diploma graduates with leadership experience are also invited to apply.
  • Demonstrated skill in supervision/ coaching of staff.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices to support diversity of all children and families.
  • Strong computer and technological skills. 
  • In depth knowledge of community resources and navigation for referrals and access to supports.
  • Knowledge in developmental screens (e.g. ASQ) and engagement of families in child development.
  • Collaboration with team members and development of community partnerships.
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour supports and childhood trauma/ mental health an asset.
  • Awareness of current research and best practices in the early years.
