Junior Day Camp Leader – Summer Day Camp




Under the guidance of the other Day Camp Leaders and the Project Manager, this position involves direct leadership, supervision and program planning in a day camp setting. This is a starting position and suitable for any student interested in working with children.



  • Assist in planning, organizing and leading children in out-trips, sports, games, arts, crafts, music and educational activities
  • Cleans up and secures room leaving it presentable for evening programs/community groups
  • Maintains good communication with parents, children, co-workers and volunteers
  • Managing behavior of children using teaching, encouragement, natural and logical consequence methods
  • Performs basic administrative tasks such as attendance checks and writing progress reports
  • Responds to first aid needs and unusual incidents
  • Responsible for the safety, leadership and supervision of children 6-14 years old, volunteers and staff in a variety of activities 
  • Qualifications:
  • Ability to work independently and contribute positively to a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with children in programs
  • Knowledge and experience working with children with special needs and behavioural problems
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Requirement to complete a Criminal Record Search
  • Valid First Aid & CPR certification
  • Ability to speak a second language an asset
  • Term and Conditions:
  • This position is made possible by the Summer Career Placements grant; all positions are subject to funding approval
  • You must have been a full time student in 2017-2018 with the intent of returning full time in the fall of 2018.
  • Position will run late June – late August 2018, exact dates TBA.
  • $15.38 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
  • 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
