The Opportunity


ANS is a 24 hour emergency receiving home for at risk youth between the ages of 13 to 19 who are in need of a short term residential program. The emergency home serves the Langley area and supports youth who need to stabilize their current situation.


We are currently looking for two self-directed, positive, engaging Residential Awake Night Workers to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Residence Worker, the Residential Night Worker will monitor and ensure the overall safety and security of youth in a collaborative team environment.

POSITION:                                            Permanent Full Time (non-bargaining unit position)

HOURS OF WORK:                             This position requires individuals to work on a four day rotating schedule

                                                               Nights 10:45pm–7:45 am

SALARY RANGE:                                 $19.04   - $21.14 per hour

                                                               Grid 10 – Step 2

VACATION:                                           As per ESS policy

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitors residents through the night and attends to any medical and behavioral needs that arise during the night
  • Follow through on direction regarding specific residents left by the day staff.
  • Notifies staff of any major problems or emergencies. Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supports residents with their morning and evening routines at the beginning and end of the shift.
  • Ensures that residents follow house rules. Monitors curfew regulations and reports to appropriate authorities as required.
  • Administers medications to residents in accordance with established policy.
  • Ensures that logbooks and other documentation such as charts and incident reports are complete.
  • Performs light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, cleaning and laundry. Performs minor building maintenance such as changing light bulbs. Reports maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • We are interested in candidates with the following Qualifications
  1. Education and Knowledge
  • Diploma in a related human/social services field
  • Current knowledge of issues and resources related to youth at-risk
  • 2. Training and Experience
  • 2 years recent related experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • 3. Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to be flexible, resourceful and possess good time management skills.4. Other Information
  • Ability to function as an independent self-starter with limited “on-site” supervision
  • Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Drivers’ License and have a reliable vehicle(mileage paid for work use)
