The Youth Housing Program works with a diverse population of youth who face a number of barriers. We work with each youth at their starting point, helping them achieve their goals and ambitions as they journey toward independence. Our work is youth focused, based on the principles of harm reduction, resiliency, and trauma –informed, solution focused practice, and a strength-based approach.


Youth Housing Programs offer safe, supportive housing for youth experiencing addictions and homelessness. As the Transitional Support Worker (TSW), your primary responsibilities include building relationships with the youth and teaching them valuable life skills that support youths’ successful transition to adulthood. The TSW will complete all house related tasks (cleaning, upkeep) ensuring a safe, clean and supportive home environment for the youth.


Hours: Temporary Full-time: April to Mid-October: Friday to Sunday; 10:00pm to 9:00am

In Your Role You Will

  • Build rapport and supervise youth through active listening and one-on-one support.  
  • Facilitate opportunities for youth to learn valuable life skills (household shopping, meal planning/ preparation, maintenance of household/landscape, money management etc.).
  • Create a safe and supportive home environment for youth, including maintaining a clean living environment.
  • Assist and encourage youth to actively participate in their transition plan.
  • Communicate pertinent information regarding the progress of youth, changes in behavior, concerns and challenges to household team members.
  • Document neighbor interaction using Neighbor Documentation Form and Community Contact log.

 Education and Certifications

  • Degree/diploma in Human Services.
  • Certifications: Standard First Aid/CPR, Aboriginal Awareness, Medication Administration, De-escalation, Protection of Sexually Exploited Children’s Act, Suicide Intervention, Harm Reduction, Food Safety and WHMIS
  • Must provide Police Information Check (including vulnerable sector) and Child Intervention Check.
  • Reliable, registered vehicle, driver’s license, a recent driver’s abstract and valid insurance including two million dollar liability coverage.


  • 2+ years working with marginalized populations (youth experience is an asset).
  • Experience working with youth struggling with addictions, poverty, mental health, and trauma.
  • Working knowledge and experience with harm reduction, resiliency, trauma-informed and solution focused practice.
  • Demonstrated experience de-escalating crisis situations with individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol, under extreme stress &/or struggling with acute/chronic mental health crises.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, database applications and computer operation.
