Job Description

The Program
Spirit of Our Youth Homes offers trauma informed based services within a culturally enriched environment for First Nations, Metis and Inuit youth ages 3-24 years old. Our trained staff team work to optimize each youth’s potential and strengthen their connections with family and their indigenous community. We provide safe, clean, welcoming homes for children and youth who for various reasons cannot remain in their family homes. We strengthen individuals and their ties to family and community while keeping them connected to and empowered by their culture.


The Position
We are looking for energetic, experienced Child and Youth Care Team Leads.

As Team Leader you are responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations in one of the Spirit homes. The Team Leader provides and maintains a safe, supportive and culturally open environment in order to support the development of the clients and staff.


In Your Role You Will
Direct Service Delivery:
• Practice Trauma Informed Care within an Aboriginal Cultural framework.
• Ensure that all youths’ basic needs are met.
• Implement service plans under the supervision of the Program Manager
• Prepare bi-weekly menus and monthly recreation plans that fit within budget
• Maintain regular contact with Case Managers, family, and/or others on the professional team, advocating on behalf of the youth as required.
• Accompany and safely transport youth to and from school, on outings, and to medical appointments, as needed.
• Manage the homes budget/petty cash.
• Work in cooperation with others to plan, support and/or deliver culturally appropriate programs, services, workshops, and outings
• Ensure home and equipment are clean, safe and orderly
• On call duties as required.
• Other related responsibilities, as assigned, to support the group home program/company.

Personnel Management:
• Ensure daily duties are assigned and completed.
• Prepare and maintain staff schedules including holiday requests, leaves of absence or sick leaves.
• Review and authorize staff timesheets on a bi-weekly basis.
• Orientation of new staff.
• Meet with staff for case consultation, and client file review, providing direction as needed
• Facilitate staff meetings.
• Oversee employee and team performance through ongoing feedback, staff supervisions, probation and performance reviews.
• Help employees with conflict resolution and address disciplinary matters, and/or concerns as required.

Administration and Canadian Accreditation Council Compliance:
• Maintain documentation of assigned staff and client files.
• Ensure log book is reviewed and maintained daily.
• Ensure self and employees are in compliance with Spirit of Our Youth Homes Inc. policies and procedures.
• Ensures timely completion of monthly reports including but not limited to, occupancy, vehicle inspection, and site inspection reports.

*** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 3 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.


As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
• Degree, Diploma or Certificate in the Human Services field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in the Human Services field working with youth.
• 1+ years supervisory experience in a social services role.
• A current (within past 6 months) criminal record check and Children’s Services Intervention check prior to confirmation of employment
• Must have - Class 5 Driver’s Licence or GDL (driver for minimally 3 years) with clean driver’s abstract & personal car insurance (2 million in third party liability)
• First Aid/CPR Certificate Level C
• Suicide Intervention, Self Harm, Crisis Intervention and Medication Administration training
• Aboriginal awareness and cultural diversity training and awareness and understanding of Alberta Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
• Able to lift 50 lbs
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to remain calm, be self-motivated & able to motivate others.
