This position will be in the Youth: Community Choices for Success (Y:CCS) program, part of the JVS Toronto Disability Services. Y:CCS supports youth (18-30) with a dual diagnosis of mental health and a developmental disability to enhance their quality of life and increase their inclusion in the community.

 

Employment Counsellor, Y:CCS

Full-time / One-year contract with possibility of extension, starting May 12, 2018 / Dufferin & Lawrence

 

The individual in this position will:

  • Interview and assess participants with developmental disabilities and mental health issues for suitability for the program
  • Develop and facilitate group workshops that promote communication and work-related skill-building, community inclusion and civic participation
  • Provide employment counseling to a caseload of 15-20 participants in conjunction with the JVS Workforce Specialist
  • Provide assessment, case management and one-to-one support to 15-20 participants
  • Deliver individualized counseling for employment-related challenges and assist with job coaching in the community
  • Develop strategies, program alternatives, service plans and goals in collaboration with participants including bi-annual ISP
  • Liaise and case manage with community mental health professionals, referral workers and participants to make recommendations for skill development and other interventions
  • Work within the mandate of the Quality Assurance Measures (QAM), Developmental Services Ontario, and JVS Toronto program guidelines
  • Maintain documentation, statistical reports and client files as required by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and JVS Toronto

Please note that flexible hours/evenings/ weekends may be required.

 

You are a university graduate in Social Work, Adult Education or a related field of Human Services with 2-3 years of experience supporting individuals who have a dual diagnosis. You possess extensive knowledge of mental health and developmental disability issues and their impact on social inclusion and community involvement. In addition to strong counselling skills, you have experience facilitating groups for a range of learning styles and demonstrate excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills as well as the ability to develop respectful and trusting relationships with participants. The successful candidate will possess strong collaboration skills, oral and written communication skills and is a positive team player. Up to date CPR and First Aid Certifications are required for this position as is current Crisis Prevention and Intervention training certification. Proficiency using Windows applications and the ability to learn Salesforce and other in-house software is essential. Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required for this position. Bilingual and fluency in French is an asset.
