 Anticipatory Employment Opportunity:

  Capital Campaign Development Officer (F/T – one year term, may be renewed)

 

UNYA is seeking an experienced and motivated fundraising professional to support UNYA’s goals by bringing energy, ideas and experience to lead a $5M - $10M capital campaign. The Development Officer manages the Native Youth Centre capital campaign fundraising strategy. This position is full-time and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. Salary range: $70,000-90,000 per year, plus extended health benefits.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Native Youth Centre capital campaign, including around all stages of the fundraising cycle for individual, foundation and corporate donors - research, identification, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship
  • Work with Chief Executive Officer, Project Manager, and Communications Officer to develop and implement campaign strategy
  • Set performance targets, measures and timelines, and monitor and manage overall performance of the campaign
  • Manage the development budget
  • Coordinate fundraising volunteer team, work collaboratively with UNYA staff and volunteers
  • Conduct face to face meetings, and lead and/or support in person major gift solicitations
  • Develop, write and manage collateral and proposals for private sector fundraising
  • In collaboration with team, inform the development of proposals and reporting to ensure consistency
  • Plan and execute events as required for cultivation, engagement and fund solicitation purposes
  • Maintain donor database and gift tracking tools, as well as administration of workflows around donations
  • Ensure sound and ethical management of all confidential information, accurate databases and financial records
  • Regular reporting to CEO, Board, and committees as required
  • Represent UNYA at events and meetings as necessary
  • Participate in UNYA activities as necessary
  • Other duties as required to meet the goals of UNYA’s Native Youth Centre capital campaign

 

Qualifications and Conditions:

  1. Post-secondary degree in fundraising or related field
  2. 3-5 years of experience in a senior fundraising position, or an equivalent of education and experience
  3. Experience working on a major capital campaign preferred
  4. In-depth experience and demonstrated leadership in effective donor cultivation and solicitation of major gifts
  5. Demonstrated ability to build long-term relationships with donors, using skill, tact, discretion and compassion
  6. Experience working with volunteers and Boards of Directors
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of organizations and funders working with youth, social services, and Indigenous peoples
  8. Experience in writing individual donor solicitation materials, developing grant applications with foundations and corporations
  9. Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
  10. Advanced interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with diverse groups of people (internally and externally)
  11. Excellent negotiations skills with the ability to influence decisions to achieve objectives while maintaining policy
  12. Strong understanding of industry best practices, accounting and budgeting principles, and legislation and regulations as they apply to charitable gifts
  13. Ability to identify with UNYA’s mandate, including knowledge and understanding of Indigenous and youth organizations, the not-for-profit sector, Indigenous practices, and social issues impacting Indigenous youth today
  14. Must have a criminal record check completed by and satisfactory to UNYA
  15. Given UNYA’s mandate, priority will be given to qualified Indigenous applicants
