TERM POSITION (11 MONTHS) (JOB # 5640 – 1001)

Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) is an award-winning, accredited not-for-profit that has served the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley for over 30 years. Our participants are often vulnerable or marginalized from society. PCRS is committed to integrated service delivery, which is people-centred, inclusive, collaborative, and evidence based. PCRS has an annual operating budget of approximately 24 million, employs nearly 350 staff, and engages over 200 volunteers.

PCRS seeks an experienced youth housing worker for its surrey youth housing services. The successful applicant will be part of an integrated youth services team that works out of the Guildford Youth Resource Centre (GYRC) to provide support for youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. 


Position Summary:

The youth housing worker assists young people with one-on-one support for housing searches, landlord mediation, life skills support, and assistance with educational options.  This worker liaises with other agencies and community partners in case planning.


Primary Duties:

  • Provide housing supports to youth, including housing searches and moving assistance.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and reports.
  • Facilitate positive relationships between youth and landlords.
  • Create and support service plans and connect youth to resources in the community.
  • Provide outreach support to participants in the community. Use of personal vehicle is required (mileage is paid).

Work Conditions

  • Hours: 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (approximately).
  • There will be need for earlier or later hours depending upon circumstances, including: attending morning meetings, attending evening youth events, offering support at key times, and coordinating backfill.

Academic and Job Experience Required:

BA in a related field plus one year related experience, or a child and youth care diploma plus two years’ experience, or a combination of education and related work experience with at-risk youth.


Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector
  • Valid BC driver’s license with business insurance use
  • Driver’s abstract must be submitted
  • Sound understanding of Residential Tenancy Agreement

Desired Requirements:

Familiarity with transtheoretical model of change, motivational interviewing, solution-focused counselling, addictions counselling training, mental health training, sexual abuse training, depression/suicide/co-occurring disorder training, and trauma-informed practice.
