The Program:

Rivers Edge Resources offers services to adults with a wide range of developmental disabilities and and/or mental health issues and operates from our office on Shaughnessy Street in the Marpole district of Vancouver, British Columbia. This pristine setting, provides a calming setting for up to 20 adults and staff.


Adults attending River’s Edge are coached in life and social skills, functional education, self-advocacy, community access and integration and relationship building. They can be in groups or one on one sessions and located at River’s Edge and in the community. We also offer employment readiness programs for individuals that have interest and may be capable of employment. We have one individual running their own micro enterprise.


The Position and Scheduling:

Under supervision, the community support worker (CSW) is responsible for assisting clients of an accredited agency with their physical, economic, vocational, recreational, social, emotional and daily life skills development. This casual position involves group sessions and one-to-one work with individuals.  This position requires union membership with CUPE.


This position will work a variety of shifts that include weekdays, weekends and evening shifts that could include (but not limited to) scheduling of 0800-1600 and 1600-2400.


As an ideal candidate you possess:

  • A diploma in one of the humanities, social work or related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum one year of related experience
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, Level 1 certificate
  • Valid BC Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract and a safe, reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
  • Previous experience with trauma informed practice and behavior management
  • Experience with behaviour management
  • Physician’s note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Valid WHMIS, Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Current Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and current Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within probation period)

Bona Fide Occupational Requirement:
This is a gender-specific position based upon the behaviour and needs of the person served, Female applicants required.
