Multicultural Community Educator (Sexual Health) Position
Compass Centre for Sexual Wellness is a non-profit, charitable organization based in Edmonton. Working with community partners the Multicultural Community Educator’s role is to empower and increase the capacity of the Edmonton Immigrant community to address sexual and reproductive health issues in a culturally appropriate and welcoming environment. As a community-based organization providing access to non-judgemental sexual and reproductive health services and supports across the lifespan. 
 
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: 
• Work in partnership with other Compass Centre staff, agencies and coalitions of agencies/service providers to explore new and/or innovative ways of offering programming around culturally appropriate positive sexuality.
• Facilitate sexual health workshops and presentations to a variety of community groups and agencies (i.e., youth groups, ESL/ELL schools, and immigrant service agencies) 
• Comfortably presenting topics including contraception, safer sex, sexual anatomy, personal boundaries, consent, STIs, and healthy relationships
• Provide professional development training programs for community agencies, frontline staff, community workers and others around issues of positive sexuality in multicultural communities
• Support community development activities to build program profile and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders
• Stay up to date on the trends impacting sexual health
• Research and contribute information to the educators library
 
Desired qualifications include:
• A combination of relevant experiences and/or related educational background 
o With preference given to those with public health, health promotion, human services familiarity
• Experience working within the immigrant community in the area of community development/ engagement, such as community animator.  
• Interpersonal skills to relate to and engage individuals from diverse cultures, sexual orientation, gender identities and socio-economic backgrounds 
• Previous facilitation experience to groups of varying sizes
• Knowledge of and comfort with sexual health topics
• Pro-choice philosophy
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Strong communication skills
• Able to work both independently and with others in a creative and flexible work environment
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
• Able to pass a criminal record check
