The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Ontario SPCA) is a registered charity with a Provincial Office in Stouffville and supports close to 50 communities throughout Ontario. The following opportunity is available at the Provincial Education and Animal Centre in Stouffville.


POSITION TITLE:     Provincial Education & Animal Centre Manager


REPORTS TO:          Senior Director of Shelter Health and Wellness




The Provincial Education & Animal Centre (PEAC) is the Ontario SPCA’s flagship education, animal care and adoption centre.  As the Manager for PEAC, you will have the exciting opportunity to help change animals’ lives every day through developing and directing a professional team.


You will be responsible for the overall operations of the Animal Centre which include financial planning, budgeting, animal care, staffing, volunteer engagement, fundraising, community outreach and other Centre activities.


You will also promote the Ontario SPCA’s mission and implement provincial initiatives within the Centre and surrounding community.  This will include developing and maintaining key relationships within the community with the assistance of the Community Development Manager and the PEAC Community Development Assistant, and promoting public awareness of the Centre. 







  1. Masterminding, monitoring and maintaining the Centre operational budget, including capital expenditures, operating expenses and revenue.
  2. Developing business and marketing plans
  1. Supervising staff who will ensure that:  all animals receive the appropriate animal care plan for outcomes, disease prevention and other protocols are adhered to at all times, purchasing and inventory control are maintained and proper drug storage protocols are followed.
  • Communicating regularly with the Senior Director and other members of Shelter Health and Wellness, and other Departments as necessary, to provide required reports in a timely manner.




  1. Motivating, engaging and supervising staff and volunteers in meeting the goals and objectives of PEAC and the Ontario SPCA.
  • Adhering to employment and operational policies and procedures as established by the Ontario SPCA.




  1. Implementing and supporting Ontario SPCA’s mission, goals and initiatives in the local community.
  1. Supervising the development of community outreach programs.  These programs promote the Centre within the community through promotional activities, fundraising events, producing and circulating literature and developing and maintaining media relations.
  2. Producing media releases according to Society guidelines and forwarding these to appropriate media outlets.
  3. Overseeing the building and maintaining of relationships with local services fostering support for the Centre including veterinary and animal services.
  4. Overseeing your Community Development Assistant in implementation and delivery of educational programs within the community, e.g. humane education and youth camps, and developing relationships with community groups.




Implementing health and safety practices to include:

  • Establishing safe work practices while taking the necessary precautions to protect employees as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Ensuring training is provided to all staff and volunteers on safe work practices, protective equipment, work place hazards, reporting accidents and hazardous conditions
  • Investigating and reporting all incidents of injury that require medical aid and/or lost time to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
  • Facilitating safe and early return to work for injured employees.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and healthy environment for, volunteers, visitors and animals




Other duties as may be assigned.




  • Post-secondary education or related equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years managerial experience to include financial management
  • Fundraising, volunteer management and media experience preferred
  • Animal welfare background ideal, and a desire to learn
  • Demonstrated passion for animal welfare
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, relationship building and customer service skills
  • Experience with traditional media and social media preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Windows and MS Office is required
  • Police Clearance Certificate is required
  • Valid “G” driver’s license is required
