Pest Control / Heat Treatment Chargehand & Operator

Play a key role in the upkeep of our properties through safe, effective pest control solutions

Lower Mainland (Metro Vancouver), BC

With safety as a top priority, you will operate heat treatment and pest control equipment for the effective treatment of bed bug and other pest infestations on BC Housing properties and various Single Room Occupancy (SRO) sites. Come prepared to work shifts or on weekends, and to travel around the Lower Mainland.

As an Operator or Chargehand, you will also prep areas or units for the application of heat treatment (including the removal of combustibles and furniture, covering sprinklers or heat detectors and sealing areas to guard against heat loss), along with setting up, operating and remotely monitoring equipment, performing safety checks and recording data.

As a Chargehand, you will not only perform Pest Control / Heat Treatment Operator functions, but also direct, train, and assign work to a team of pest control program staff. You will conduct pre- and post-treatment inspections, liaising with groundskeepers, property portfolio managers and site staff, and issuing preparatory instructions to tenants. It will also fall to you to ensure compliance with work standards and deadlines, recommend improvements, inspect and maintain equipment, order supplies and maintain records. You will also coordinate other pest-control services, including the application of pesticides, as required.

These positions call for a Grade 12 education, good organizational and problem-solving skills, proficiency with the MS Office suite, and the ability to handle all physical aspects of the job, including lifting, climbing and exposure to heat. In addition, to take on the leadership duties of Pest Control and Heat Treatment Chargehand, you will need to have the following:

  • A background in tenant/client relations
  • Experience supervising or managing workers in a complex, ever-changing environment
  • A Pesticide Applicator's licence (or the willingness to obtain one).
  • Previous experience providing pest control services and operating Temp Air heat treatment equipment would be an asset.

Please note: The successful applicants will be required to complete a satisfactory criminal record check.
