Position Summary


In this exciting role, you will work closely with the fundraising team and combine your fundraising, organisational, research and writing skills with your passion for promoting peaceful co-existence for people and wildlife.


The Grant Writer will work closely with our small development team to identify prospects, develop funding proposals, cultivate foundation and corporate donors, and prepare documents to support fundraising activities, track metrics, and steward donors.


Key Responsibilities


  • Conduct prospect research of foundations and corporations to identify key grant opportunities
  • Identify, explore and develop new funding opportunities as they present themselves
  • Work with fellow fundraising team members during grant development, and finalize all work with the Education and Outreach Manager and/or Executive Director prior to submission
  • Assist with scheduling meetings with prospective foundation/corporate donors and prepare information
  • Write engaging grant proposals, submitting them on time and tracking their outcomes
  • Develop processes and forms to track activities, deadlines, stewardship goals and metrics for portfolio of 30+ funders
  • Assist in developing grant writing and revenue goals
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required
  • Follow up with all grant proposals to ensure donor/prospect is thanked appropriately and receives materials or follow-up actions as outlined
  • Maintain records in database, including all forms of contact with donors
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested
  • Participate in occasional evening/weekend and/or off-site meetings and events as needed

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to multitask in a busy environment, to work well under pressure, and to prioritize tasks appropriately while meeting time-sensitive demands
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to write clear, powerful and persuasive proposals
  • Strong creative thinker with fresh and innovative ideas
  • Knowledge of prospect research and fundraising approaches, techniques and strategies
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources
  • Graduate of fundraising program or work experience equivalent



  • Proficiency in Adobe Indesign, and Photoshop
  • Familiarity with Etapestry database
  • Experience writing for the charitable sector
