1) 27.5 Hours/ week Monday-Friday, 7:30am -9:00am and 1:30pm – 5:30pm
2) 20 Hours / week Monday-Friday 1:30 – 5:30pm
3) 15 Hours / week Monday-Friday 2:30pm – 5:30pm
4) 35 Hours / week Monday to Friday 7:30am-9:00am and 12:00pm to 5:30pm
5) Substitute – have some availability Monday – Friday between 7:30am-9:00am and/or 12:00pm-1:00pm and/or 1:30pm- 5:30pm
Status: Part time/Contract
Salary/Hourly: $12.00/hr for part time positions
Employment Date: ASAP to June 29, 2018; Possible return for 2018/2019 school year

About Us

The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth (The Association) provides programs and services to residents of the
Halifax Regional Municipality encompassing the cities of Halifax and Dartmouth and the surrounding
communities. The Association has over 159 years of a rich tradition in meeting the changing needs of the
community. Our YMCA provides services encompassing Health and Wellness, Employment, Childcare,
Residential and Day Camp, Immigrant Services and Youth Leadership Development through programs such as
Priority Youth (previously known as Youth at Risk), Alternative Suspension and Youth Outreach at the
Community YMCA. The Association employs over 250 full-time and part-time staff and the community
benefits from the annual contribution of over 500 YMCA volunteers.

Nature & Scope: Using Developmental Assets as a foundation, the principles of YMCA Healthy Child Development, HIGH FIVE and CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Heath), the YMCA fosters cooperation and understanding in our program to enhance children’s' development of self-concept and self-reliance. Daily physical activity is a
priority. The YPHD program delivers recreational activities for children in grades Primary to Grade 6, in 7
schools in HRM, before school, during lunch and after school.

Responsibilities: The Program Leader will be responsible for assisting the Head Program Leader with the daily operation of a recreational program, at an administrative and program implementation level. Program Leaders will provide recreational activities for children between the ages of 5 and 12.


Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, ensuring the YMCA policy and best practices are implemented on site on a daily bases and as defined by the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth. Those best practices include, and are not limited to, program values, philosophy and description, Health and Safety standards, program implementation and communication.

• Degree/Diploma relating to Recreation /Education/Child Studies or related Experience
• HIGH FIVE Healthy Child Development and/or Quest considered an asset
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR
• Police check and Child Abuse Registry Check
• Minimum 1 year working with large groups of children in a recreational program
• Organizational and time management skills
• Works to create a child-centered program
• Working knowledge of conflict resolution skills
• Knowledge of age and stage of development of school-age children
• Behavioural Management
• Flexible working style
• Self-directed and self-motivated
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Must have strong interpersonal, administrative and communication skills


The successful candidate will be required to:
• Meet the physical demands for the program implementation
• Interact with a wide variety of individuals on various issues
