Front-End Web Developer (12-month contract)

 

Reporting to the Manager, Business Enterprise Solutions (BES), this role is part of the BES team within the Information Technology department. S/he is responsible for designing, coding and modifying websites, from layout to function and according to a client's specifications, as well as, strives to create visually appealing sites that feature user-friendly design and clear navigation.

 

The role also consults with management and helps develop software to fit the user’s needs. S/he must have excellent communication skills, as they often work directly with clients and may be required to train other staff. Flexibility, the ability to work well in teams, and the ability to work well with minimal supervision are also preferred traits.

This role includes, but not limited to:

 

Web Development: 80%

  • Regular exposure to business stakeholders and executive management, as well as the authority and scope to apply your expertise to many interesting technical problems
  • Create working, responsive and/or progressive websites and web applications from screen mock-ups, wireframes and functional specifications
  • Front-end web development using programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js and development of API's
  • Performance tuning and troubleshooting of all developed code
  • The position requires communication with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Analyze, problem solve and make recommendations
  • Support the IT Solutions Architect in implementing design requirements
  • Prepare documentation for crafted solutions
  • Commit code to Git regularly 

Quality Assurance 10%

  • Participate in quality initiatives such as unit testing, code reviewing, coding standards, and source code management
  • Participate in and recommend new continuous improvement initiatives 

Agile Sprint Administration: 5%

  • Engage in the team’s agile methodology
  • Actively participate in daily scrums, bi-weekly retrospectives, showcases, and planning sessions 

Other: 5%

  • Comply with all CCFC policies and procedures
  • Other related duties as assigned 

Required qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Front-end web developer
  • Deep expertise and hands on experience building websites and web applications
  • Deep experience with web technologies such as: JavaScript, JQuery, modern HTML and CSS
  • Must have a strong understanding of user experience (UX), cross-browser compatibility, and web related technologies
  • Experienced in cross-browser compatibility, responsive and progressive web design, secure coding principles, Object-Oriented design
  • Experience with React.js / Vue.js
  • Experience integrating external vendor REST APIs is needed to be successful in this position
  • Experience with Git Source Code Management
  • Experienced with website accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2)
  • Prior experience with WordPress theming is an asset
  • Familiarity with Node.js and C#/Java is considered an asset
  • Strong grasp of security principles and how they apply to E-Commerce applications
  • Willingness to stay abreast of technological trends in the area of software development and design
  • Ability to prepare documentation on crafted solutions
  • Ability to provide user training as requested
