For over 20 years Starfish Family Resources has provided peer support programs, including RAINBOWS, for grieving children and families.  We proudly serve over 30 communities in central and northern Alberta with program partners in over one hundred schools, churches and community groups. We provide training workshops several times each year for RAINBOWS facilitators, who in turn help some 1000 Alberta children (and potentially many more) each year cope with divorce, separation, death or other major loss. We are excited to be launching a new support program specifically for divorcing parents called The Next Chapter in the fall of 2018.

Starfish currently has an opportunity for a part time Executive Director.  Based out of our Edmonton office, we are looking for a leader who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of families experiencing loss.  The Executive Director will have a unique opportunity to expand Starfish’s reach in the community by leveraging a solid foundation of service and by creating and implementing new programs and initiatives. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership and the day-to-day operations of the organization.  This will include a wide range of duties such as:

  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization’s programs and services including facilitation and program delivery
  • Represent the organization at community activities
  • Provide ongoing support and information to parents, professionals, and educators
  • Working closely with the Starfish Board of Directors to articulate strategic plans as well as liaise on aspects of the organization’s activities
  • Prepare, monitor and advise on budgets and financial activities
  • Oversee the development of fundraising plans including grant writing

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in a social science, or other degree with experience working in a social field
  • Knowledge of grief and loss
  • Facilitation skills and experience
  • Business ­­­skills and experience
  • Marketing and fundraising experience
  • Learning agility and personal alignment to the work
  • Outstanding people and communications skills
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks would be an asset
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Flexibility in working hours (will require 2 or 3 evenings/month, and occasional weekend work)
