Job Profile:


The Clinical Lead takes the lead for quality and improvement in case management of the program’s clients. The incumbent develops and leads an explicit care pathway for the management and care of clients. The Clinical Lead builds the capacity of all staff to respond effectively to clients and is the senior clinician on the team. The Clinical Lead carries a small caseload and works with clients 16 years of age and older who are experiencing significant challenges with activities of daily living, social role, and functioning across all domains – health, educational, vocational, emotional, social, recreational, and financial as a result of serious and persistent mental illness with severe functional challenges.


The Clinical Lead provides clinical oversight, excellent clinical judgement and support to team members as well as support for client issues (consent, legal, ethical, safety, crisis), performs caseload reviews, manages referrals and waitlists, assigns cases to Case Managers, holds regular update meetings with staff and is accountable for client flow through programs and making treatment recommendations, including discharge of clients. The Clinical Lead works within a multi-disciplinary approach, liaising with hospitals, psychiatrists, service providers and Case Managers to ensure excellent client care and results.  


In addition to compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, the incumbent is also expected to behave ethically, demonstrate competence in effective communication and team building, demonstrate effectiveness in working in a collaborative environment, and demonstrate confidence in decision-making and in building relationships.



  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in health or social services with relevant experience in a community-based organization working with adults with serious mental illness
  • Current registration with the OCSWSSW or a regulatory body under the Regulated Health Professions Act
  • A second language (Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Italian, Persian, Punjabi, Korean, Tamil, Urdu) reflecting the local community is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, concurrent disorders and dual diagnosis (developmental disability and/or traumatic brain injury) is preferred
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team approach to care is preferred
  • Supervisory experience and the ability to create a space where all opinions are valued and people feel free to share them is required
  • Knowledge of the complexities of clinical work and various client populations, as well as the issues faced bycaregivers
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Experience working with service and health care providers such as psychiatrists, doctors and case managers
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act, mental health reform principles, the Substitute Decisions Act, the Health Care Consent Act and PHIPA requirements
  • Ability to apply Recovery principles and empowerment oriented philosophies and practices in work with clients
  • A valid Canadian driver’s license, a minimum $1,000,000 third party liability insurance and proof that insurance covers use of personal vehicle to transport clients
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check)

This position reports to and is supervised by the Manager.

Working Conditions: Office work, community settings, hospital settings, meetings in clients’ home and travel with clients. Periodic / scheduled evening and weekend on-call duties are required.
