If you are passionate about helping children and youth ages 6-18, and are interested in working in non-profit, the Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver has a temporary position for a Medical Attendant in supporting the health and safety of children during our upcoming summer camp. We are seeking candidates who share our values around social justice and who are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of local families. Join us, an exciting opportunity awaits!

 

Primary Purpose: To serve as the primary medical attendant responsible for the health and safety of children at our Blue Sky summer camp.

 

Duties:

  • Dispensing medications
  • Reviewing medical backgrounds
  • Completion of first aid reports when necessary
  • Assume responsibility for safety of children
  • Encourage program objectives, rules, policies and guidelines
  • Assist team members with a variety of program activities, whenever no crisis is at hand
  • Problem solve through situations and seek assistance when necessary
  • Attend scheduled meetings and training
  • Ensure all children are comfortable, safe
  • Know where children are at all times
  • Convey leadership values - providing a constructive and pleasant presence
  • Conflict resolution and behavioral management
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 education
  • Current Occupational First Aid Level 2, and CPR C. (Occupational First Aid Level 3 is an asset)
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector Check)
  • Previous experience working with at-risk and marginalized children is an asset
  • Due to funder requirements applicants must be between 15 – 30 years of age at the start of employment; have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee status has been conferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong background in first-aid and emergency response / pre-hospital care
  • Pharmacology background (for dispensing medications)
  • Strong empathetic personality (for dealing with childhood trauma / abuse situations)
  • Camp activity background is an asset (experience with archery, hiking, orienteering, lifeguarding, etc.)
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, compassion, and patience
  • Fluent ability in adapting to a dynamic and ever changing environment

Mandatory Training (all three days mandatory): June 9, 10, 16 (24 hours)

Camp Session One:   Tuesday, July 3rd to Friday July 6th (32 hours a week)

Camp Session Two: Monday, July 9th to Friday July 13th (40 hours a week)

Camp Session Three: Monday, July 16th to Friday July 20th (40 hours a week)

Camp Session Four: Monday, July 23rd to Friday July 27th (40 hours a week)
