Full Time Term Position (10 months)

PCRS requires a full time Social Worker to provide in-home and group support for approximately 20 foster homes in Surrey, Delta and Langley, BC.

 

Position Summary:

 

This position requires a client-centered individual who has a full understanding of MCFD foster home policies and procedures, the various responsibilities of fostering families, parenting strategies, child and youth development, attachment issues and special needs. The successful candidate will assist caregivers in managing stress and promote self- care, provide training that will build caregivers skills in working with often challenging children and youth, helping caregivers to raise their professional voices to advocate for the children and their care,  themselves and their families. In addition, he/she will be familiar with the Ministry of Children and Families system and be expert in organizing and managing reports and communicating with other professionals. He/she will regularly liaise with a wide range of professionals in the child in care system and attend case management meetings with caregivers as their support and advocate. The individual will be well organized and have the ability to work on their own.

 

Additional Duties & Skills:

  • Maintain reports and data collection
  • Contribute as a member of the larger PCRS team
  • Parenting skills development
  • Group training
  • Organize and facilitate up to five (5) groups with monthly meetings that include:
  1. Groups for new caregivers who are required to attend the 1st year of their fostering
  2. Groups for caregivers who have children with Reactive attachment
  3. Groups for grandparents who have children who are ‘Out of Care’.
  4. Groups for the caregivers on current
  5. Cultural competency in working with Indigenous youth and families.

Work Conditions

 

The caregiver support worker is expected to meet the unique needs of this population group and to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

 

Academic and Job Experience Required:

 

MSW, BSW, or B.A. and five years of experience preferably including work with families, or the equivalent.

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector
  • Driver’s license with business insurance use
  • Use of own vehicle required (mileage is paid)
