Job Description  

 

SHIP is a respected provider of social services, providing much needed support to vulnerable populations in the areas of living, learning and working.   SHIP works closely with clients, enabling them to embrace their full potential and to achieve their goals of recovery, wellness and living successfully in their own community.    SHIP offers an excellent work environment that allows students to learn and grow. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual to fill the position of:

 

Community Development Assistant (Student)

 

 

Duration:                                           Paid student placements for 8 Weeks (Tentative start date: June 1, 2018)

Hours per Week:                               30 Hours

Reports to:                                        Program Manager

 

Responsibilities:

  • Community wellness including development, promotion and sustainability of programming, social recreational activities, community events
  • Volunteer recruitment and orientation
  • Updating social enterprise business policies and procedures and development of a social media plan
  • Assisting with records management including file maintenance
  • Client engagement
  • And supporting the day-to-day activities of the Community Development Team
  • Administrative duties such as: typing, filing, copying, data entry, etc
  • General community development email and phone inquiries
  • Perform other related duties and projects as required
  • Responsible for client/resident safety.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled as a Full-time student in Community Development, Social work, Psychology, or a related field of study and returning to school in the following year.
  • Experience working directly with vulnerable individuals would be an asset
  • Ability to maintain and preserve strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to build confidence and strong relationships
  • Organized with the ability to be flexible in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Office, EXCEL, PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Proven skill in formatting and drafting correspondence, forms, reports, and proposals
  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
