Program Overview

The Toronto Youth Job Corps (TYJC) program helps at-risk youth gain sustainable employment through skill development and intensive life skills training.  About 90 at-risk youth participate in pre-employment training, assessment and work experience, leading to a 16-24 week work placement, with the goal of securing full time employment with the same or a different employer.  Participants are involved in a community work team experience assessment that includes providing painting services for non-profit organizations, receiving structured feedback, developing an action plan, carrying out career exploration, and participating in employability skills workshops.

Toronto Youth Job Corps

Full-time / 1 year contract / Starting ASAP / Jane & Finch

 

We’re looking for someone who will:

  • Meet client job placement and retention targets
  • Negotiate employment opportunities that meet both client and employer needs
  • Critique resumes and covering letters
  • Facilitate weekly pre-employment workshops
  • Coordinate relevant guest speaker presentations and group excursions as it pertains to job readiness
  • Carry out job development using JVS Toronto’s consultative sales model including prospecting (cold calling), networking, employer needs analysis, features/benefits, and other EOPII job development and sales techniques
  • Build productive ongoing relationships with potential employers for agency programs/clients, contacting employers using random and targeted lead generation approaches for current client job placement needs, and advocating on behalf of the client
  • Follow up with employers and clients to support ongoing retention in employment or work assignment; monitor placements; assess work environment and identify strategies to maintain client success
  • Develop and prepare employment and retention plans, training agreements, and associated file documentation; prepare and maintain files, statistics, reports and all documentation required to meet JVS Toronto and Ministry service standards
  • As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, support the overall program planning and delivery as needed
  • Uphold Salesforce data management and data integrity

Flexible hours / evenings / weekends may be required for this position.

 

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • College diploma in Social Services, or evaluated as the Canadian equivalency
  • 1-2 years of experience supervising and coaching youth in a workplace setting
  • Demonstrated understanding of at-risk youths’ needs
  • Ability to develop relationships with young people
  • Ability to deal effectively with employers and other stakeholders
  • Sensitivity and tact to deal effectively with youth from different cultural/racial backgrounds and/or with special needs
  • Possess current working knowledge of employment-related issues and learning approaches
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; experience in writing reports
  • Computer literate; the ability to learn systems used by the agency (ie. SalesForce)
  • A valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is required for this position
  • A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position
