The Ubuntu CSD (Collaborative Service Delivery) Program, is an innovative approach to child and family support which leverages a network of partner agencies and Children’s Services to create customized support for children, youth, and families in North East Edmonton.


Ubuntu offers a continuum of culturally aligned, community-based, family and child centered services. Collectively, with Boyle Street as the lead agency, Ubuntu is one point of access to a streamlined set of services that leverages the expertise of five networks to meet the needs of our families, children, and youth. Entitled the C5 (Collaborative Five) – Ubuntu works collaboratively with Boyle Street Community Services, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre, and Terra Centre for Teen Parents.

While Ubuntu is a C5 program, this position is as an employee of Boyle Street Community Services. Boyle Street offers an attractive benefits package including four weeks’ vacation for Managers, and extensive professional development.


The Ubuntu Program is based out of the C5’s Northeast Community Hub – 14023 Victoria Trail.

Please note that there are 2 vacancies for this is position; a permanent position and a maternity leave coverage, lasting 10-16 months in duration.



Joining a team of four other Managers in the program, the Manager is primarily responsible for the general management of a team of support workers, and ensuring the day-today implementation of the Ubuntu vision of working with children, youth, and families.


Hours of work may include evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the families.



  1. Supervising and motivating staff:
  • Ensuring staff’s day to day practice reflects the Ubuntu model, Signs of Safety, and a Trauma Informed Approach
  • Using a strength based approach to ensure that staff complete required evaluation, data collection, and reporting as per accreditation standards
  • Making sure staff wellness is prioritized to better support families
  • Managing and coordinating caseloads, and ensuring 24/7 services. Including closure support. Participation in on-call support would be an expectation
  1. Recruitment, training, and retention
  • Play an active role in interviewing, hiring, training, and ultimately retention of program staff
  • Group facilitation, training, and mediation
  1. Cultivating strong collaborative relationships:
  • With the children, youth, and families we serve
  • The North East Child and Family Services Neighborhood Centre staff
  • The C5 Partners
  • Multi-disciplinary partners, including community agencies, foster parents, etc.
  • Indigenous communities, leaders, and the DFNAs
  1. Financial management
  • Approving and processing financial expenditures to ensure that funding is allocated to achieve our intended impacts

Other duties as required.



The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • A post-secondary degree in Social Work or a related discipline
  • Two or more years of supervision/management experience, preferably in a family support program/service
  • Two or more years of experience working with families with multiple and complex needs
  • Demonstrated and effective leadership skills including performance monitoring and time management processes
  • A strong commitment to upholding the values of Boyle Street Community Services (see a list of the values at: http://boylestreet.org/who-we-are/mission-and-history/)
  • Experience with Signs of Safety would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of and experience with Indigenous and multicultural communities, particularly how they have been impacted by the child welfare system
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle and comfortable with highway driving
  • Current Criminal Record Check, Child Welfare Information System check, and Drivers Abstract
